Default Think I paid too much...but It's a Ruger 44 carbine!

My true grail gun.
I check out pawn shops in my area for cheap refrigeration tools for my students. I see a 44 carbine in excellent condition, but lots of fouling. I've sent this pawn shop many customers and done gun repairs for him on the cheep.
I bring it home. Looking on the auction websites, they are selling for $600-$700.
I've lusted after one of these since i was 15 (1964). Every time I follow up on a lead for a 44 carbine, I've always been too late. I can't remember the last time I saw one at a gun show
I believe that I can now die a happy man, gun wise.

Reading your post you said the AUCTION prices were--- so I doubt you paid that as it appears you had a in with that dealer.

If its what you want and your happy with it No you did not pay too much (what ever much is). I have one with a 2 1/2 scope on it and its a very nice gun. You right I hardly see one for sale at shows or dealers or on the local site that advertise guns for sale section.Depending on the fouling it may not feed or eject right a good cleaning will fix that fast.

Enjoy your new gun!

Glad you found one. Should be an excellent close range deer and hog gun. Mine is a first year production model I Inherited from my father. It was his favorite Maine whitetail rifle. Mine is problematic with 300 grain loads, feeds 240's and 200's fine. Might want to avoid cast bullets, as they reportedly do not mix well with the gas system (fouling). My only complaint with mine is the stock does not fit me well, and I usually get slapped in the cheek when shooting it.

Don't forget to clean the gas piston, and shoot jacketed bullets.

I've had 2 tube fed models. The last one I traded for a 617 no dash, yes they are sought after. Would like to find another one.

I have an "IN" with several pawn shops in the DFW area since I help them move slow merchandise and do gun cleanups/gunsmith work for them on site. They say that it saves a lot of paperwork.

I got the Ruger and a Remington 552BDL, both in very good condition for $575 OTD.

Great number! As you do gun work you know about no lead slugs and keep the gas ports working.

My Early Ruger Carbine was very expensive, it belonged to my long time best friend and hunting companion. His widow gave it to me when he passed. Needless to say its not going to be for sale as long as I control things.

I have an international carbine 44 that I got from a friend who bought it at a gun shop outside the SAC base in Omaha. Think He paid $65 for it used. He bought a Ruger Super Blackhawk ser #810 at the same time that has a 4&5/8 barrel. Couldn't talk Him out of that one.
