My wife is leaving for SLC, flying to the east coast this weekend. So this is me compensating and trying not to cry like a little baby - buying a new gun. Yes, I'm weak, in both instances.

I'm still saving up for my "can-do-it-all dream bolt-action rifle" a Weatherby MARK V® OUTFITTER® with some nice glass. I was getting tired of waiting and got a Marlin 336BL to compensate. Love the size of it



Might go for some coyotes and/or deer while she's gone, don't know. But I gotta keep myself busy so I don't go crazy....

I have a love-hate relationship with the 336. Their design is far from my ideal levergun. So what do I have behind the seat of my truck most of the time? A 1980 model 336 Texan with an 18 1/2" barrel and a 2 power Leupold compact scope. I dislike that gun and wont be without it.

I loved my 336, forty years ago, but traded it on a Remington 700ADL in .243 Winchester. The 336 was a very nice rifle, surprisingly accurate.

In the early 1990s I had a 336 with the crossbolt safety that I really liked. Unfortunately I had to sell it to pay some bills. Recently I inherited a non crossbolt 336 in .30-30. It's a great shooting rifle. Accurate and an easy shooter with a nice mid-range cartridge.

One thing I noticed during the 2013 panic, in my area lever actions and 30-30 was about the first gun and ammo combo to fly off the shelves. And there still aren't a lot of used lever actions out there

I have a 1970 model 336 Texan wearing a 4x Bushnell, and can empty it into a half dollar at 100 yds, its killed a lot of deer and yotes over the last 45 years

Here is my Marlin 336. One of the "other" caliber models -- 35 Remington.

My favorite gun for hunting deer in the thickets is Marlin 336
Marauder. Shortest version they made, got one in 30/30 & 35Rem
the only 2 cals. they made it in. It has 16 or 16 1/2 inch barrel.

I've shot my friend's father's stainless 336 in .30-30 and one in .35 Remington that a guy at the range let me try in return for letting him shoot my No.4 Lee Enfield. I really like the way the 336 handles and how the lever cycles. My biggest complaint is the cost of .30-30 - prices are reasonable for hunting ammo, but for someone looking to punch paper with a 336, the cost in prohibitive. Perhaps my desire for one will prompt me to finally start reloading.

Still have my first 336, as it was my first 'deer rifle', bought used by my Mom for me in the early '70's. I need to check which model it may be (it's in storage), but it was the straight-stock, 20" barrel, had the little brass saddle ring on the left receiver. .30-30 of course. Was that the 'Texan' model?
It's worn a low power Leupold variable for years. Took my first 2-3 deer with it. And gone un-used since as I grew older, it was relegated to the back of the closet as I went in search of more impressive hardware. Still glad I kept it.

I like it too so far and I hope it's a keeper.



I also like the variety of loads from 140gr. up to 190gr., this leaves many options on what to do with it. Also, the recoil is pretty manageable, despite the shorter barrel.

Not sure when I can spend a whole day at the rifle range but I'm sure gonna stock up on some ammo
