Default Need some commercial FN Mauser help.

I've owned 4 or 5 Commercial FN Musers, 2 Brownings Safaris and 5 MK X guns. Ive restocked quite a few. All my books are in boxes in storage. I tried toull up an exploded view but the one I found was t much help.

I do not remember what the bolt stop sprig setup looks lile.

I recently traded into an FN imported by FI. It is In a Browning Safari stock. When I traded into it and pulled the bolt to check the bore I knew the bolt stop spring was gone. Figured it would be an easy fix. I checked many places and called some big names. No one is sure if a regular M 98 bolt stop spring fits. Does anyone know? Know of a good FN Mauser forum perhaps. Most of the ones I looked at had old dates on posts. I read that the Browning model had a different bolt stop ejector set up.

If anyone can assist I would
really appreciate it.

Thanks, Duane.

The commercial Mauser sporters had a standard 98 Mauser military
type bolt stop. The FN Brownings had a completely different type bolt
stop that was never used on any other rifles as far as I know. Here's
a pic of my FN sporter above my Browning Safari grade sporter. You
can see the different types of bolt stop and that should tell you what
spring you need. I would guess a conventional 98 Mauser spring would
be it.

I have a ca. 1952 FN Mauser in .220 Swift. Its bolt stop looks just like those on military M98s. I have never taken it apart.

Update.

I found the bolt stop screw had been tightened onto the bolt stop housing so tight was in a bind. Also the Browning stock did not have the hole in the wood for the bolt stop screw. I opened the hole a little so it did not bind the screw. I cleaned all the 50 year old dry grease out of it and lubed it. Tightened the Stop screw to the housing and backed it of a bit. Works just like it did when new. Another broke gun cleaning fixed.

Mrs. M-70 got sick Monday, took her to the ER and found her Gerd, pot of coffee a day had caused some stomach inflammation. They kept her four days on a liquid diet and released her today. She is back to her feisty self and off the jello broth diet.

She likes for me to stay in her room at the hosp. You know I'm the junk yard dog at the door thing. She said she sleeps better.

I was trying to trouble shoot from memory on an Ipad. Wasn't going well.

Mrs M-70 is bustling about and the FN is ready to pop a coyote soon.

Glad to hear a good ending to your situation. The bolt stop screw on
the 98 has a sharp point that protrudes down into the wood. I'm not
sure what the purpose for that is but I learned the hard way a long
time ago that it was there. With my stomach problems I've cut back
a little on my strong black coffee but I'm not sure that it has helped
much. If she needs you to keep the monsters out of her room the
rifle can wait. Priorities.
