I had never heard or seen one of these until a couple weeks ago. I finally gathered enough information to determine that this is a pre NRA model, it is a first variation which is determined by the one screw mounted peep sight and the "D" shaped ejection port and other attributes. Obviously the peep sight is broken and being a first variation sight it will be next to impossible finding one. I did however win a second variation off of ebay the other night. It is a 2 screw mount, same mount as the 1st but has an additional hole. Hopefully it will be here this week. Also missing the magazine and those aren't impossible to find but they aren't inexpensive. That will be later on down the road. This first variation also has 2 firing pins and bolt cocks on closing. Second variation cocks on opening and closing and the third and last variation cocks on opening. This one is 22lr and there were some chambered in 22 short. From what I understand those were special order.
These were built as training rifles from what I have read and look somewhat like a 03A3. I think this one is first year production, maybe 1917 or so. The bore is really nice.
I've had a couple over the years and I guess they were the later models as the rear sights were different than yours. good shooting rifles. even took one squirrel hunting a few times back when I could see open sights. lee
Very interesting CZU. Sounds pretty rare to me. Saw where they produced the NRA Model 19 from 1919-1937. Approx. 50,000 made. Your's should be worth a premium being made so early. Nice score. Saw where Savage also made the 19H in 22 Hornet from 1933-1942

I thought that it was somewhat rare since I have never laid eyes on one before this one. Can't wait to shoot it. One of the guys in the shop where I bought it had the 19H in 22 hornet, he wishes he still had it.
