Default My 2nd M1 Garand

Well, I was warned that I couldn't stop at one and how true that is. I recently posted a picture of my first Garand, a March 1945 SA Garand mixmaster with a GI sniper stock. Purchased it from a local long time collector, who is a wealth of knowledge on Garands and a super guy to get to know. When I was about to leave with my first one he showed me his only all original that came from a room full of crates around 2009 at the CMP Collectors convention. They let the members open all the crates and pick which ones they wanted. He picked it out and the CMP rated it as a Service rifle because it appeared to have a replacement windage knob. A little while latter the CMP was going through what didn't sell at that time and found out that a lot of the mid 50's SA Garands had the same DRC/IHC windage knob and posted a article showing the numbers in the GCA Journal in the Fall of 2010. So it appeared that this one is all original and should have been rated a Collector instead. Over the next week I couldn't stop thinking about this one and after a sell of another gun I headed back to get it. I really thought I would go with another brand but couldn't put this one down. He made me an offer I couldn't refuse so it went home with me. Here's a few photos along with the first one. The latest is a June 1955 date.

Nice.

Remember, you can't use the stacking swivel unless you have three.

Very nice! These seem to multiply, I wound up with seventeen of em before it was all over. Ya start with I want a WWII one, then at least one from each year of the war, gotta have a Winchester too you know then a prewar. But wait there's more, there are the Korean War models and there ya go again. Like an idiot I sold off all but two just before "Saving Private Ryan" came out "duhhhh". I kept a SA 1940 vintage and a "Navy Trophy" in 7.62 Nato that started life as a mid war SA. I sure wish I had kept a few more! Enjoy those two fine rifle's!

I would add a scoped M1D and M1C to Vulcan Bobs list....and a Beretta and a BREDA Dutch crest in .308...and while we are at it perhaps a BM59 to bridge to the M14/M1A's.

A real beauties. I carried one when I was in the Marine Corps in Korea- 1952-53. I hated leaving it behind when I came back. A fantastic weapon.

We had those in HS ROTC and got to shoot them in summer camp. I took them seriously. Thought that I might have to use one in battle if WW III had broken out. The Cold War was pretty intense at times, and we never knew when the real thing might happen.

I read a lot of WWII books then and saw the usual movies and TV shows with Garands in them.

They're definitely a classic rifle.

TiroFijo-

May I ask what Fijo means? My Spanish is pretty limited. Tiro I understand.

Would you please begin a different topic and tell us about gun laws and shooting/carrying opportunities in Paraguay? I'm sure that many of us would be interested.

Can you hunt jaguars or other animals there, maybe some types of deer? Are most brands of firearms available?

Just checked the CMP web site and it looks like with the exception of "Sniper" rifles and Special Grade .308s, Garands are sold out.

Field Grade, Service Grade and Special Grade sold out today.

Glad I was able to buy mine when they were still plentiful.
