Default Any other 60 year olds looking for birth year guns?

I am approaching 60 this year and thinking of getting a birth year (1956) gun as a birthday present for me. Not looking for offers, but I am considering smith revolvers and Winchester centerfire rifles.

Anyone else looking for 1956 firearms?
What guns are you considering?

I'd like a 1955 one, just because.

Thought I had one, but Mr. Jinks said February 1956.

Funny. If I'd been born in January, a gun made in December, eleven months later, would still be a "BIRTH YEAR" gun But, since I was born in November, the one I have, made three months later, doesn't qualify.

While I'm not actually looking, yeah I'd love to have a nice S&W from 1954.
Oddly enough, I've hit all around it. 53,55,56, but so far no 1954.
Oh well, maybe someday.

I have been looking for one from '52 and a week or so ago I found one. It's still in the layaway bin for now, but hopefully I'll have it out before my next birthday.

Five screw, K-22. SCSW says the S/N puts it right in the middle of '52. That's close enough for me.

I am a youngster at 57, so not looking for a 60 year old firearm. I was looking for an April 1959 gun, and thought I found it. The letter says it was shipped January 26 1960 though, oh so close.

I had a desire for a late 1952 K22(earlier in the year would have been fine too,to coincide with my conception.LOL)but gave up on it,as my desire to downsize all things came into play. That's often part of the sixtyish transformation too.

How 'bout those of us who are way over 60???

I have been looking for a nice clean early 1939 S&W M&P for years; serial number would probably be in the 673,000 to 681,000 range for a 1939-shipped gun. If you have one or know of one for sale, please PM me! This has been my grail for so long I can't remember!

Don't really care about a 1955 gun.

But a '55 Chev pickup would be sweet.

When I acquired my .38/44 I was amazed to discover it was made in 1931 or '32. WAY WAY WAY before my time and there it was, sitting in my safe, and going to the range with me. I have a really old Winchester Model 94 that amuses me like that, too, and some extremely old shotguns. Just having old guns like that gives me joy so it never occurred to me to look for a birth year gun. I do think it's a clever endeavor but not one that I'll focus on.

I bought three flat latch J frames and one turned out to be my birth year gun, a model 36 (1960).
Chose J frame because most went in the bedroom drawer and never
got shot much if at all. Can find J frames in near new in box condition
for around $500 or less. Just need to be patient. Good luck.

My 60 something age ends with a 9. Three years ago at the SWCA meeting, I found a M&P that was from 1947. I bought it and it was shipped about 6 weeks after my birthday, that is close enough for me.

I'm hoping for a 1949 K22. But I live in Kalifornistan which makes it very difficult.

Default .44 mag, 1 June 1956

60th birthday coming up in a few days. I'd wouldn't mind finding a .44 magnum shipped 1 June, 1956. That is as close as I can get to Saturday, 2 June 1956.

I would have to have a 1937 model. Unfortunately, or fortunately, I no longer can afford to buy guns. But a '37 Smith would be nice.

Probably because you're too good to your kids. If I had one I'd lend it to you!

I have a 1941 .38 S&W for a birth year gun. I would be happier with a .357 or .44 but the cost would probably be prohibitive. Larry

Been looking for a few years now for a REALLY NICE 1961 Model 10. So far I've come up with 1959, 1960, 1962 and 1963, all traded off for something else I didn't need.

Right now I'm tickled pink as I was just gifted a near new, no box 1961 Winchester Model 61. Guess I'm going to have to start looking for a S & W Model 61 Escort to go with the Winchester. I've owned about a half dozen but they always seem to slip away.

I have been looking for a 1955 gun for years. Nothing made in 1955 yet. I have Smith's from 1876, 1920, 49, 51, 71, 84, 87 and 6 newer ones. I have Winchester's from 1936, 54, 61 and 63. I have 3 Ruger's from 1976. I have Remington's from 1932, 34, 36 and 57. A Mossberg from 1941. Two High Standards from 1954 and 59. A Mauser from 1915, a Colt from 1925, a Walther from 1929, a Beretta from 1935 and a Browning from 1954.

I rarely by any gun because of the year it was made. But, I have decided that guns made in 1955 are like unicorns. Good luck in your search and let know if you find extras.

1956 was a good year for Smith & Wesson and is my birth year also in the last few years I have seen several and used that justification to buy them. Just keep looking they are out there in the shadows. Good luck

I picked up a Marlin 39a last year and after checking the serial # for a manufacture date, find it was made in my birth year, 1948.

I never gave it a thought until about 5 years ago, my brother and I were walking around a local gunshow, I was mildly interested in finding a Mosin if the price and condition were right, and I came upon a Romanian m-44 in pretty nice shape, with a bold 1954 stamped across the top of the chamber. I could not, not buy it.

Well, I picked up a '54 H&R top-break .22 recently, that has to be close enough to '53 (December) for me. Here it is in my first attempt at a holster...

IMO the premier S&W model that screams 1956 is the Combat Magnum or "Pre" Model 19,
The initial run would have a serial between K260,001 and K265000 (Under K264,500 is a safer bet for 1956 and the more "Under" the better ) .

IIRC the five screw 4" "Pre" Model 29 is also a unique S&W that appears sometime in late 1956...of course those can be a bit more pricey.
Good luck in your search

Always on the lookout for a 1949 vintage.... closest I have found is a 1950 6" M&P that was shipped the day before my first birthday. I did, however find a 1923 vintage Colt New Army that is my dad's birth year.

I have two Highway Patrolmenfrom 1955ish, haven't had them lettered. Since I was shipped from the factory in December of that year,, 55 or 56 is close enough!

Default Found mine today

The first gun I ever owned was a J. C. Higgins 22 single shot rifle my Dad got from Sears for $10.88. I traded for another J. C. Higgins today that was made in my birth year of 1947. It is a model 20 12 gauge pump action shot gun made by High Standard. Still looks and shoots good after 68 years.

I took $200 off of the price of a 62 Fairlane 500 I was selling for the shotgun, 22 shotgun shells of birdshot and 1,685 rounds of 22 long rifle. I think I did OK.

My first gun was a J. C. Higgins and my last one will probably be a J. C. Higgins. However, I've bought my "last gun" from when I had 2 or 3 to my current 14.

diamondtreo- I had a pair of RB 2" M&Ps from 1949 but another member already talked me out of one of them being it shipped the day after he was born and I don't know if I could part with the other one. Well, maybe if you traded me something similar and paid me for the letter...(shipped to Greenblatt in NYC on 5/17/49).

I never looked for a "birth year gun" (and it's amazing how many guys around here were born in 1955 like me) but I have acquired several without trying. I have a pair of Fourth Model 44 Targets that shipped in 1955 (one exactly seven days after my birthday). A Terrier 38 that might be from 1955 and a Ruger Standard Model 22 pistol from that year (my other Ruger auto a Target Model from 1966 which is my wife's year of birth). I also have a Yugo Mauser 98 made in 1955. Amazing that the 98 was made that late.

I see I have quite a few from 1954 and 1956 too. But then, the 1950s is sort of my period of interest in guns.

My first birth year gun was a 1952 Colt Commander that I bought in 1980. Carried that gun daily till 2007. A few years before I had found a second 1952 Commander and had it customized with full hard chrome finish and night sights...I have worn it daily since.

A few years ago I happened to comment about an older 5" Pre-27 stating only that I was looking for one like that made in the early 1950s. A few days later I get a PM from another member stating he had a 6" that lettered to 1952...was going to turn it down as I really wanted a 5" but when he said "shipped on May 21st, 1952 to the George Lawrence Company, Portland, Oregon" I simply asked "how much is the postage"...as that is my birth day....what's the chance... Earlier this year I found a new still in the package George Lawrence Keith 120 for a 6" 27..again what are the chances.

Shortly after that a friend was selling off most of his guns. One of them was a Pre-17 with target grips made in 1952. As I had the exact same gun made in 1951 he was nice enough to trade and then sold my 51.

Keep looking..they are out there...Bob

Is that a no dash?

I'm 4 months behind you. 59 is a rough year since that's right after numbered models started. So everything's a no-dash.

I've enjoyed this thread. And I'm a collector to the bone, but a birth year shipped/manufactured gun doesn't mean much to me.

I've been looking for a nice birth year revolver (1948, in my case) for some time. Not real particular about which model, but the right one just hasn't come along. Got a few years yet (I hope!) to find it.

I got a birth yr & month 3 digit K22 from march 1947. Also a 2" M&P from Dec 47.

Not looking particularly, just happened to work out that way. It's fun searching for these things. Good luck.
