So I got this Series '70 about a year ago used. It had already had some custom work done it, which I was looking for, for a project gun.
The slide was cut with Dovetails to accomodate Novak Style Night Sights. It had said Novaks installed. It also had an arched main spring housing with a mag well which I believe is a Smith & Alexander. The ejection port was flared. It had a Wilson Combat Bushing fit to the stock Colt Barrel.
There were some things that needed to be undone as well, as the previous owner had a rail drilled and tapped on the frame for use with a light. I had it removed and had the holes welded up.
Here is what I have had done to the gun since I took ownership:
- I had the stock safety replaced with a Modern style safety.
- had the grip safety replaced with an Ed Brown Grip Safety which fits better than the Smith & Alexander grip safety
- the trigger that was on it was a solid aluminum match grade trigger, I had it replaced with an STI Match grade Nylon Trigger. I have this trigger on anther 1911 and highly recommend it.
- I replaced the grips with a set of Raasco Cocobolo laminate double Diamonds.
- after fitting the new grip safety and welding the frame where the rail was drilled and tapped, the frame needed to be refinished. For a few bucks more they refinished the slide for me too.
I think it came out great. COLT should make them from the factory like this.
