Default I may have displaced a LITTLE bit of money

I just visited my new local Cabelas to pick up a mag for my recent 10/22.
Well, I came home with a 25 shot mag AND a 12 ga. Semi auto.
It's a Win 1400 MarkII.
Reading the reviews puts it as a piece of junk to a serviceable shotgun. I thought the price was good for a semi (350), but I may have been mistaken.
It's in excellent shape with what appears to be black walnut stocks.
I thought it was a diamond in the rough, but may turn out to be a piece of sandstone.
I wish it held more than 2+1, but it doesn't and will not ever, I found out.
It does fit well and is light for a semi, so if it shoots straight, I guess I did alright.
P.S. Remember for Memorial Day!!

I own a 1400 made for Sears (Ted Williams brand). Not rated for steel but I keep it for sentimental reasons (dad's old bird gun).

Unless it's some amazing variant of the 1400 you paid $100-$150 too much. Yes they are 2+1 and that's it. Reliable but nothing special...light years away from the Berettas and Benellis.

My FIL and BIL both have a 1400 in 16 gauge.

No issues with them. Bil's is an improved choke. I quail hunted with him and it worked every time. His shooting did not impress the quail nor my dog.

I saw a few old questions about value online. 3 and 5 years old, the prices for yours is pretty close to the older ones, If yours has a VR it was a good buy.

Ok, thanks. It's obvious to me now that you explained that!
No, it does not have a ventilated rib.

For a couple years I ran into a guy carrying one in 16 gauge while hunting grouse.
He liked it and had the choke opened up for grouse instead of ducks.

Worked fine for him and he had grouse a couple of the times I saw him.
I had none even though my gun is a 20 gauge over and under.

Ah the old curse of the over and under. One either shoots a little high or low on grouse. An auto hits right in the middle.

The 1400 Win semi auto fits in with the cheap semi auto 22s like the
190 and 290, I think the mod numbers were without getting up to
check. Alloy receiver and mostly stamped parts and birch stocks. The
1400 is light because it has an aluminum alloy receiver. The wood may
appear to be black walnut and it could be but I would bet it's birch
that's stained to look like walnut. I agree with the above post that
said you overpaid by $100-150. The good news is that some owners
do swear by them as a reliable hunting gun that's easy to carry and
a good value as a gun to use and abuse. I've seen them in GSs for
around $200 asking price.

These 1400's are perfectly serviceable guns.

Not the best.

Not the worst.

The 3 shot limit is no handicap.

If you can't do it with 3 12ga rounds , you need lots of friends to intervene, not more ammo.

Shot a box of field loads through it today and it functioned just fine.
It is a very soft shooting 12 ga. I didn't get a chance to pattern it, just function check.
It is walnut, of that I am sure. I can recognize wood when I see it.
It is what it is and so far, its ok by me.
Not top grade, I realize, but I think it will be a serviceable shotgun that's easy on the shoulder and easy to carry for the day.

Most shotguns used for hunting will be carried a lot more than shot
unless you go to South America for a special Dove hunt or something
similar where thousands of rounds might be fired in a few days. A gun
like the 1400 could serve as a reliable hunting gun for a lifetime of
hunting and never need any repairs. Not top grade but it doesn't have
to be. It's a working gun.

Jessie (OP) I wouldn't worry about if you paid a little more than the gun was worth. You liked it enough when you first saw it and handled it in the store to pay their asking price. I've paid more than maybe I should have for a gun more than once because I really wanted it.
You've already taken it out and like the way that it shoots. Enjoy it, you bought a good field gun.
