Bought ME A Glock
This is one of the first autos I have ever purchased, and my first Glock...It's the Glock G36 in .45 auto. I got it because i'm sick of banging up revolvers and worrying about their ability to take abuse, I wanted something about the same size, weight, and stopping power per round as one of my main carry guns-the Ruger SP101(357)...The G36 seemed to be the perfect solution.
Shot it today a bit, basically zero recoil compared to the SP101, and 2 extra rounds of that man stopper 45! Got to love that big muzzle hole!

Great choice! It will serve its purpose well, while laughing at any abuse.

I did order a holster last week before going to pick out a Glock. I was dead set on getting a G30 so I just went ahead and ordered a DeSantis thumb break scabbard holster for the 29/30. DeSantis makes one specifically for the 36 as well but i'm not sure I want to deal with internet returns and wait time.
Do you think the 36 would be swimming in a molded holster meant for the 29/30, or should I go ahead and return it? The 29/30 holster is supposed to arrive tomorrow.

The G36 will certainly take the abuse. That said, with improvements in ammo, and for the same size, but holding 15 in the magazine, I would have bought the G19. Takes up the same real estate as a J frame, yet holds 15 rounds of really good 9mm ammo.
Here is a G19 under a 642. Holds three times as many rounds of ammo that is better than the 38 Special.

My Smiths and Colts are are very dear to me. I enjoy shooting them at the range and marveling at the quality and attention to detail that built them. My Glocks are are my choice of defense. Reliable and my wife and I shoot them well. If I ding up a Glock I won't care.

I forgot to mention that I really wanted a .45, so that's why I got this over a 9 or 40. Here is my J frame on top of it like yours lol

I`ve owned two Glocks, Gen 2 Glock 23 & the Gen 3 17. The 17 is my favorite by far.

I'm not really a Glock fan, but I`ll admit to owning a few Glocks over the years. It`s all about function with a Glock and yes, they do function well. Good luck with your new 36!

Had one for years. Loved it. Recoil with +P 230 gr laods was pretty fierce, and it pinched my little finger between butt and magazine floorplate, but these were the only difficulties I had with it. Functioned with anything I fed it including 180 gr SWC target bullets in front of 3.5 grs of Bullseye.

I'm with Old Cop. My favorite is the model 17, although the only one that I own now is a G-22, 40. The guns are some of the finest combat pistols ever designed and manufactured. You will not be disappointed in your Glock, but, you may find yourself looking at and buying others......
They have a reputation second to none for reliability. Best ones in my opinion are the compacts which have the advantage of great portability coupled with high capacity and ease of concealment. Pretty natural pointing guns. You're going to be happy with the gun.

I carry a G26. 9mm+Ps aren't .357s but get darn close with a lot less flash and noise. 12+1 with a 19 rounder (+2 extensions on both mags) in a pocket mag holder, I have not found a more perfect combination of concealability, firepower, and reliability.
If an even smaller gun and a bigger bullet are important, you made a great choice.

Eh , I like Glock well enough w/o being a fan boy.
If you wanted a semiauto on purpose ro fill the role of your SP101 , I can understand you for wanting .45acp. Arguably case could have been made for .357Sig and .45GAP, but that is really a discussion of the different frame sizes involved.
* To Me * , the G26/27/ etc guns don't fit me at all, while G29sf feels tailor made for my hand.
The G36 has a much narrower (and lighter) slide than a G30. Light weight to carry vs more muzzle flip. I've shot G36 , its certianly usable, not painful, but muzzle flip is more prounced than G29 with full power 10mm.
Due to slide dimentions, there is a significant difference between G36 and G30 holsters.

I'm not much of a Glock fan.
I have owned a 22 (gen 2) & 34 (gen 3).
Grip angle feels strange to me.
I think Glock is over priced & features sub par materials such as a non stainless steel barrel, plastic guide rod (until gen 4), the cheapest plastic sights ever put on a handgun, they don't even polish a feed ramp.
Everyone talks about reliability yet Glock is on its 3rd incarnation of the Glock 42 and it just came out in 2014.
Also there was a recall with gen 2 Glocks & in gen 4 Glocks (so much for reliability)
For the same money I would rather HK VP9 or Walther PPQ.

No luck with Glock's imperfection. G26 gen4 out of the box tossed brass to my face...as did the G43 out of the box. Had to shoot them sideways gangster style to avoid the rain of brass. G42 better...but sold all three and chose to carry FNS-9C and Colt Mustang instead. Was gifted a G30S in .45 but that thingie inside the trigger slaps my trigger finger bad when I shoot... Still not happy with any Glock I've tried. Favorite is still my old S&W M&P .38 special service revolver from my LEO days and my new S&W 351PD in .22Mag. Reading up on the history of Glock and their various shenanigans sours me on doing business with them too.

A year ago, I laughed at Glocks. Now I own 4 and my wife has 2.
Yes:
1. Glocks all look alike.
2. Glocks all function the same.
3. Glocks have the same trigger pull.
4. There lots of add-ons for Glocks.
5. Glocks are ugly.
But,
6. Glocks go "bang" every time you pull the trigger.
7. Glocks always produce acceptable accuracy.
To me, the last two are what count. I will always prefer Colt, Rugers and S & W revolvers. But, we both carry Glocks.
PS Glocks are boring.

Here is my unboxing and firing the first shots fired through it. I did not fire a single round before I started recording. I am impressed with this pistol.

Started with a 26, went to a 22 (and a 27), converted my 27 to a 33 (my EDC).

I agree about the sights. They are awful. The rest is a none issue. The barrel doesn't need to be stainless nor does the feed ramp need polishing. They are on their 3rd incarnation but it's not all due reliability problems. They have changed small stuff over the years just like the S&W dash numbers. Going from a no dash to -1 doesn't mean the no dash was any less reliable. Some of the changes had to do with finger grooves, rails added, different grip texture. Over the years the firing pin was upgraded and in turn so was the firing pin safety. The extractor was also upgraded among
Unfortunately neither manufacturers offers a G19 sized model

Glocks are a great pistol and have been proven dependable worldwide. My wife has a model 19 9mm and it is a fine gun. My only complaint is the polygonal rifling in the barrel which doesn't allow loading cast bullets. You can shoot them, but the shallow rounded lands don't grip them well enough to stabilize them. I wish they came with a cut rifled barrel.

I think you did well choosing your .45. Yes some prefer to carry a different pistol but for size, weight and firepower you'd be hard pressed to find something better. Get some night sights and a decent holster.

I have the Lone Wolf (Alpha Wolf) barrels in mine with no problems and a tad more accurate.

Glock 36....the only Glock I really like. I've had mine for years, and for civilian concealed carry, I think it's about perfect. I do carry a Kahr CM9, when dress dictates, but the Glock 36 is a great carry piece. The only problem I encountered was "Glock knuckle", but a little work with some sandpaper and Dremel took care of that, and no problem now.
You did well, Grasshopper.......

I hate Glocks. Somehow I managed to own 4 of them and carry one almost daily. Today it was a G26 in a G19 holster with a G17 mag for back up.

I think you got one of the best CC big bore guns.
It's not high capacity, but if 7 .45s don't work, I'm not sure what will.
It's thinner than the 30, its light as heck and its combat accurate without very much recoil for what you're launching. I've shot it and found that it fits my hand better than any other Glock I've shot.
It ain't pretty, but that's not why you bought it, was it?

Exactly what "abuse" are you worried about with your revolvers ? I beat the hell out of my j-frame and never had a problem, lot less to break ..SP101 is built like a tank too...did something happen to yours ?

Everyone should have at least one utilitarian glock. I have the 26 and for big bore the 10mm g20. I love the 20. I keep all my 1911s in the safe and bring them out to clean and fondle. But the glock is great to toss in the truck or run it on the weekend at IDPA.

I bought a Glock 30 in 1999. I have put exactly 100 rounds through it since the day I bought it. It is well made, seems very reliable, is very accurate, and may be the softest shooting gun in 45 ACP that I have ever fired. I can find very little wrong with it, except for the fact that it is plastic. I just can't warm up to plastic guns. It just sits in my safe waiting for me to find it a new home. The Sig P220 ruined me for all other semi-autos in 45 ACP. Can't knock Glocks. Can't love 'em either.

I've had a Gen 4 Glock 26 for a while now, Great CCW. A perfect fit for my hands. In a pinch I toss it in my pocket. 10+1

I fully understand your sentiment. But, would you throw your Sig under the seat of your vehicle? Leave it in the glove box? Leave it at the hunt camp?
I wouldn't. Nor would I really do the same to a Glock, but if I had to choose....? No tears would be shed.

I love the way my Glock 23 speaks to me as I stare at it with glossy eyes when it's laying on the coffee table. As my fingertips slowly caress the dull black polymer lower and liquid ferritic nitrocarburized coated upper I feel chills of excitement. The polymer and I are one, the way the textured grip and the finger groves fits my hand like a well worn leather glove. The trigger, yes that safe action trigger, with it's 5 and half pound pull that I have grown to count on being consistent with every tug of my trigger finger. I know I can count on my Glock to be there for me when I need it, just like I'm there for it as I slowly rub a light synthetic lubricant over every nook and granny. Some, who have no love for Glock's, have called it ugly, but they have not come to appreciate it's boxy, but shapely form, the way I have. It's spirit speaks to me again saying "trust me, and I will never let you down!"

Great choice. As the owner of a G17 and G23 at age 25 and then the G22 at age 42. That means my next purchase for the "must have" G30S will be at age 59. Lol.

I appreciate the Glocks I have, but not quite in the same way you do.
Maybe you were spoofing( a polymer term)

I wouldn't. Nor would I really do the same to a Glock, but if I had to choose....? No tears would be shed.

I would only do that with my P7.

Yeah, my version of poking fun at the blued steel and wood guys who claim their old 1911's and Model 29's have a soul and "speak" to them when they hold it.

This is why one should not buy a holster...before buying the gun!

Bought a glock? I'm sorry for you. At least it's in 45acp. Kidding.
I don't plan on owning one yet. I feel owning a glock is like owning a plastic m14.

Now I want a 23! I have a 22 that I really like along with two HKs in 40 but I can't seem to get accustomed to the triggers. Maybe I should trade one for a G23

Ditto to save some typing..... I owned 3 in the 90s a 19 and two 26s....I didn't find them superior to my existing stash of Smith 3913s and 6906s, magazines and holsters ....
I found the grips on the 26s less comfortable than the 6906 so I stuck with 12+1 vs 10+1.....and the Glocks came and went.
If I was starting from scratch today..... they would be on my short list along with some Beretta, Sig and CZ offerings....... in all likelihood a Glock 19 would fill the slot currently occupied by my "used but not abused" S&W 915.

I've owned a couple of Glocks. A 19 and a 26. Sold them because they didn't do anything better than other guns that had features I like. I don't like finger grooves on guns forcing me to hold a weapon the way the gun wants me to. I like a safety on a semi auto and a mag disconnect is a big plus. I used to get those features in third gen pistols but polymer is lighter, so my home gun is now a Ruger SR9 and my carry gun is an LC9-S. I did just get a Bodyguard .380 for summer pocket carry.
So what does the Glock do that other polymer striker fired guns don't? It reliably launches a bullet, like my Rugers. Aftermarket support? I'm not gonna spend more on "upgrades" than I did on the gun.

I got the holster intended for the G30 yesterday and my 36 fit it perfectly. The only conceivable difference I could see between this and what I should have ordered is a mock line molded into the leather where the 30 has a rail and the 36 does not.
