I agree. I got the email from Ruger today. It went on my "to do" list.

Agree. Been wondering how long it would take and wish they had a 5 inch but figure they are looking at the CCW market.
Like my .45 CMD but figure I will let the bugs get worked out of it and spend some time saving my cash up.

Not me, I'll stick with good old .45 ACP.....Just bought a new SR1911 LW a few days ago, and have no use for one in 9mm, AND,......I don't understand the "fascination"...........

MSRP on this is $30 more than the Colt Lightweight Commander in either caliber. Just sayin'.

My preference has always been for the .45 in the 1911. In fact, I have 4 of them and always take one to the range when I go. This past week it was the Colt Commander. I also usually take a 9mm. Many people are interested in the 9mm 1911 because of ammo costs. If you don't reload, there is a substantial difference. I reload .45 and buy 9mm aluminum for $10 or less so that is not a factor for me. I shoot outside and take a blanket to catch as much .45 brass as I can. I do loose some and that is a part of the cost of my hobby. I don't worry about the 9mm "brass".
I have never fired a 9mm in a 1911 and would like to try it. I have a full size Ruger and have been happy with it. If I get a 9mm, I do not have to worry about "breaking in" the barrel as I will not shoot lead. It would be another gun where loosing "brass" is not a concern. Also the Ruger is a lightweight and might get carried from time to time.

Bought a Springfield Armory EMP 4 in March of this year! A 9mm 1911 that holds 10 rds in the magazine and one in the pipe. Owned and shot 1911s in 45 since 1975. Just got tired of recoil from extended shooting sessions at the range with 45. I don't load 45 target loads they are all "GI ball" equivelency loads. This Ruger in 9 with an ambi safety and a trigger job would have been sufficient.

Does the Ruger have a ramped barrel? If not, feeding some of the current crop of SD ammo may be problematic. Or maybe not. I have 3 9mm 1911's, two with ramps and one without. The one without will not feed truncated cone bullets reliably. Anything that's more or less round nose, including hollow points, will feed fine. The ones with ramped barrels will feed pretty much anything. YMMV.

Warning: you will like it! I have a couple of 1911's in traditional 45acp and of course, great pistols. Bought a S.A. range officer in 9mm and it's becoming my favorite to shoot. For me the way it recoils and comes back on target just works. And yes, I reload so ammo cost is of no concern.

Me as well. I had been looking at the Rock Island 1911 compact in 9mm given its price but this one will make me stop and think a bit. I have the full sized SR1911 and lightweight commander in .45acp and they are fine pistols.

I wanted a short LW 1911 9mm to fill a gap in my carry rotation and picked up a kimber stainless Ultra carry II . That's has a 3.21" barrel with a officers size grip and function is 100% thru the first 400 rounds . Lead reloads included thru underwood 124gr +P .
They also have a LW Pro model that has a 4" barrel and full grip at 28oz and lower with the same cost at 891 retail . I payed 729 new at our local general store / gun shop .
Good option for a 45 or 9mm LW 1911 . Full size is all Stainless steel

I'd buy the colt LW commander
I don't buy anything as an investment. But a colt will always retain value.
People don't collect rugers or kimbers or any of the others and never will.
They do collect colts...and even these current models that we now view as common and rather pedestrian will be sought after one day.

The Colt Commander in 9mm has been around for around for 66 years. Why is everyone going gaga over a Ruger version now?

For one thing, its not easy to find a Colt. I gave up looking and bought a Para Ordnance because I could actually get one. It turned out to be a very good pistol right out of the box and shoots both jacketed and lead very well.
