I may start carrying my glock 23. Is the standard sights O.K. or should I switch to night sights or something different?

Standards are fine. The stock plastic front sight is easy to knock off so don't be surprised if you do just that.

Sights were the first thing I changed on my G27.
Not a fan of plastic sights, or the white "U" in the rear.
I went with Ameriglo Pro I-Dots with orange outline up front.
The bright orange draws your eye in daylight, and in low light, just stack the two glowing tritium dots on top of each other.

Originally I took off the stock and put on night sights right away. Recent ones I've left stock. It has not made a difference for daylight carry and range shooting.

But I don't like pulling out a bedside gun without a night sight reference on the gun. If there is a disturbance, I don't always want to turn on a room light, hand held flashlight, or weapon light and immediately pinpoint myself.

Eventually, I probably will replace each of the stock Glock sights.

Just my opinion, the standard polymer Glock dot-and-bucket sights work. Do they work well? Depends on the individual marksman. I find them good enough for range work. On my carry Glock's, I install aftermarket night sights. I tend to prioritize fast front dot acquisition and sight alignment. I find the right balance in a dot and post type sight. I've tried a few, and settled on the XS 24-7 Big Dots. I find the front dot is fast to acquire and fast to dot the "i" under simulated stress. I'm able to put repeatable combat accurate shots on a man size target out to 25 yards. Again, I prioritize combat accuracy in relation to physiological stress response over bullseye accuracy.

This works for me. YMMV.

Well that's your call based your needs and intended use.

I swapped out the Glock sights for Tru-Glo TFX a few months ago. I have been pleased with the result. YMMV.

The Glock night sights on my Gen3 G23 had become very dim so I replaced them with Tru-Glo TFO sights. They have worked great for me. They are green fiber optic in daylight and tritium in darkness.

Sights are a very personal thing. What works for any number of people may not work for you. This is one of those areas, like holsters, where you may have to experiment with different models to find what works for you. One thing I will say is that, just for durability reasons, you should probably replace the factory plastic sights with steel ones. IIRC, Glock does offer steel replacement sights with the same U/dot set-up as the factory plastic sights, so if that pattern works for you that could be an option.

Just my opinion, but I think night sights are nice to have for some people, but not essential. If I had a Glock the first set of sights I'd try would be the Ameriglo Defoor plain black sights. For me, colors and night sights that I've tried have been a little distracting. I prefer to keep my focus on the target while I look through the sights or, with fast and close shooting, just keep my gun in my field of view. Also, my 642 doesn't have night sights and I'd like to keep the sighting system the same on all my guns. FYI, I painted the sights on my 642 black and it works for me. I only wish I had more daylight on either side of the front sight.

Every Glock I've ever ccw'd have sported either Trijicons or Tru-Glo night sights.

Way back when I bought my Gen 2 Glock 19 I read and heard about
the supposedly fragile original front sight so I had it replaced with
Glock's steel front sight. My three Glocks since then, a 26,42 and 43
have their original sights and will keep them.

Which do you like better the Trijicon HD or TruGlo TFX and why? Thanks.

I have a variety of sights on my Glocks. Bedroom guns (both mine and my wife's) have lasers by Crimson Trace. Prefer white outline for my EDC. Mt G20 (10mm) is getting a fiber optic front. Don't care fore night sights.

My G23 came with Tru Dot factory sights (green front and rear). I added Tru Dot Front and orange rear to my G17 and both work great! I prefer the green front and orange rear as it is easier to find the rear sights in the dark.

I've heard over and over "I'll just use a flashlight" or "if I can't see my sights I can't see the target". I've found there are many instances just walking around my house at night where a doorway may be lit but I am in darkness and cannot focus on plain sights. The night sights are a great benefit IMO
