Default Help with info & value HK4

I realize this is the S&W forum. I also realize you are all very very good with info on guns, S&W or not.

I have the opportunity to obtain an HK4 with a complete barrel set as part of a trade. Can anyone fill me in on these? From what I've found so far this is a very early model as it doesn't have the ULM proof marks on the barrels. It also appears to be unfired and in excellent condition, the box is in terrible shape but it does have the test targets that match to each barrel and both extractors.

Any info on the gun and it's value would be a big help, Thanks!

Those typically are bringing $1000+ depending on condition and completeness these days

I had a .380 30+ years ago, basically an improvement on the Mauser Hsc, but not as good as a Sig 230. Bigger than a PPK, but lighter due to aluminum alloy frame. They were known to have the frame crack near the internal slide stop. Mine never jammed and shot well.

Four caliber set was expensive when new. The .380/.22 makes sense, but who wants a .32 or .25 in a .380 size pistol? Remember there are no parts or factory repairs for it now. Somewhere between $600 to $900, depending on how bad you want it.

Avoid dry firing. Firing pins break easily.

Didn't these feature a now-irreplaceable rubber recoil buffer?

Premature buffer death in my HK4

Great evolution from the Mauser HSc, just not much market interest.
