just another old 1911A1(new pics 8-8)
found this old Remington Rand on Gunsamerica. got it yesterday, cleaned it up last night and it looks better than the pictures the seller posted. it was made in the last batch RR made in 1944. don't think it ever went to war as there is no holster wear or any kind of wear. feed ramp has a slight line where it was fired. lee

Lee, you already know my thoughts on this, but to reiterate...congratulations on a nice find. If I had the money, I'd buy these old Remington Rands every chance I got.
We'll look forward to a range report!

How can you not love an original 1911 or 1911A1? Nice catch.

They are relatively easy to find.
The problem arises when you have to decide how badly you want one and how much you want to pay for one. This applies to the Ithaca 1911A1s as well.
As a lot of people are finding out, the days of the bargain basement G.I. 1911A1s are pretty much long gone and they ain't coming back.

Very cool- congrats. I was lucky enough to inherit a 1911 Ithaca A1 from my grandfather 5 years ago and those vintage WWII 1911s are so interesting. If you can track down Clawson's book (I have a copy somewhere) you should try to figure out where it was shipped.

That's a real good one, Lee.
I've got it's brother, RR serial number 1799293, my notes say 1944 but I don't know when in '44.
Mine has a few light scratches that don't go through the Parkerizing. From the looks of it, it wasn't carried much. The fellow I bought it from had it rattling around in a toolbox wrapped in an old shirt, which probably was where and how the scratches occurred.
He was a deputy I worked with. It had belonged to his late father, a Colonel who brought it back from the Pacific after the war. His dad was a veterinarian who served under McArthur in the Philippines, they had pack mules. Shot very little judging from the lack of wear on the finish on the barrel hood and elsewhere. Probably only used to put down a few mules.

BUFF, post some pics here. you should get all the information you can on the Colonel, and if possible any of his medals, patches etc and keep the documentation with the pistol. lee

I may be the last person in the U.S. without a digital camera. I'd probably be given one if I was on welfare.
I've got to start selling things so I'll have to buy one soon.
