Ruger SP101 22LR
I took this with my new M&P 9 to the range and after 100 rounds my index finger was (still is a little) numb. I cleaned it up good today but does anyone know if that massive trigger pull ever lightens up ? I have to say I really like the gun but that trigger is stiff, I don't want to change any springs but when the weather cools I may take it apart and smooth some edges if it'll help ?? I'm talking about the Ruger SP101 22LR, the M&P is very sweet right out of the box.

If your handle is any clue to your abilities, I would let a pro handle that job.

Start with a good hand exerciser and add upper body strength to your fitness program. The SWaMPy's are about as light as a DAO should get, if you want lighter it's 1911 series and get the trigger set to 4.5 lbs military minimum.

Less a ruger guy than S&W but me thinks if you keep exercising that trigger finger, the trigger pull will seem lighter.
Seriously, I doubt it does much but maybe a reduced power spring kit might help???

My EDC is a 640 DAO and I have no problem with that , I won't mess with the springs on a 22 rimfire , I'm thinking when the weather isn't so nice I need to smooth out the action.

I like that I had a broken neck and now my fingers have a hard time holding or gripping small screws and such but I have had many guns apart and they all still go bang !

Rimfires need a stiffer hammer fall to ignite. Yeah, the S&W 617 has a nicer pull. But it's also 200 bucks more. And I just hate the lock.
So I got an SP101. .22. Hits what I'm aiming at. Not much more to ask for. Only fired 209 rounds thorough it, but all in one session. My trigger finger was fine.

That's why I got the SP101 plus they're much easier to come by. I shot it pretty well, just about an inch left and a inch high and I think if the springs lighten up that'll be solved.

Rugers can be lightened up, but it takes know-how. A lot of stoning.

I doubt if a lot of shooting will lighten the D.A. pull much. As stated above heavier springs are needed to ignite a rimfire.
I used shims from michigancenteroutdoors ,Wolf springs, and 2000 grit polishing. Much nicer trigger pull. No more sore fingers. Just watch the video's on youtube. Pretty easy and not to worry messing something up.

I bought one of those SP 101 in 22LR brand new. After getting it home and wondering why I ever bought it I decided to dump the clumsy thing before ever firing it. The grips it ships with are just plain stupid for actual use. I couldn't find any aftermarket grips for less than $100.00. That brings one very close to what a proper revolver like the 617 costs. Good used K frame grips of all variations are everywhere used for ten bucks. Not so with the Ruger. Modern day Rossi revolvers have both better finishes and triggers than the much raved about Rugers. No more Rugers for me. I'll stick with S&W.

Well, today the mailman brought my hogue grips and wolff spring kit for my SP 101. I am starting to doubt my abilities ! I been watching youtube videos and figured it would be a snap to clean, polish, lube up this nice little gun, and it was a snap until my finger slipped and pulled the trigger putting the plunger back in, stuff was flying everywhere ! Then to top that off I got a low sugar attack, and a nose bleed from having a dental implant yesterday. I went and blew my nose, ate a little something and then went part hunting. I took a good hour and found what I think is everything, then went back to youtube to see how to re-assemble. I then got it back together, changed the hammer spring and put the grips on, all seems ok but I've yet to fire it, I'll try that tomorrow maybe. I don't know if it's because I've only taken S&W's apart, but I prefer them LOL. Trigger pull is tons better, now I just hope it fires and all will be good.

IMHO, the SP 101 .22 is one of the hardest revolvers I've ever worked on to get a decent trigger job on. There is a fine line between acceptable pull and 100% function with this little gun. It took me two + hours worth of effort to get mine usable. I wanted to love it but ended up realizing I would never choose it over my 617 for any task. Best of luck with yours.

Here's an update.....Took it to the range and right away the trigger pull was 1000% better, hammer spring and grips made a world of difference, now for the next part. I had fail to fires at least 1 or 2 rounds each cylinder, and then I knew the spring was to weak, right ? Not so fast ! after looking at the rim and the strike, they all looked the same (dents) So a guy there said let me shoot some in my 22SR, 2nd bullet would not fire, stuck in the barrel. I then had a 50 round box of Armscor and shot that, no problem. I had about 300 rounds left in this box of 555 rounds (winchester 36gr) so I just kept shooting, same thing happened, when I got to the last 80-100 rounds no problems. I was sure I had to put that original spring back in, and I know I should have checked the strike marks right away but this is the 1st batch of ammo that this has ever happened to me and after just changing the spring, what are the odds ? Anyway thanks for reading, I like the gun a whole bunch now, plus I learned something. I now have 2 types of 22lr I won't use, Thunderbolts and Winchester.
