One of the most neglected collecting fields is that of Japanese handguns. Perhaps because their culture is so foreign to most westerners, and maybe because most of their ammunition is hard to get, not much of the WWII stuff sees the light of day.

And yet, these are the guns we faced in the Pacific Theater of Operations during the war. Because of this, I find them interesting to study. Here are some photos.

most don't know but I read that bill ruger liked the type 14 nambu looks that he designed the mk1 22 from it.I think the article said he had brought one back from the war or a family member did. wonderful collection you have I used to have many jap rifles but sold them off over the years.I mainly collect European side items. this mauser was taken off a jap officer and brought back by a friends uncle I have the brown holster with it.

I had a Japanese-made .38 DA revolver made by Miroku. I sold it because it made a funny noise. When I pulled the trigger, it went "Crick."

OK I've found some pictures of some of my Japanese handguns . I'll try to add some info on each one. I'll start with my type 26 revolver in 9mm Japanese. This gun was brought back from WWII by U.S. Gen. G. Hartman then in charge of supply and logistics .The gun from what I've found was rearsenaled by the Japanese in 1931.

Next up is my late war type 94 in 8mm Nambu from May 1945.
The holster is a repro from Pacific Canvas.

Most all of my guns are gifted heirlooms, and I don't know much about this gun and have never fired it.

I am going to be purchasing a "Last Ditch" Type 14 Nambu from a long time friend soon. I have an extensive U.S. Military firearm collection and this will be my first foreign military weapon. Not planning to make it a habit, but I suppose I should have one collecting dust in the safe just for giggles! I also have a sealed 15-round paper box of 1945 dated 8mm Nambu ammo to go with it......as well as a full box of the MIDWAY Nambu ammo. Should be an interesting piece.

Default Jap guns

Great stuff ! I've always been intrigued by the trigger/trigger guard design on the Model 14. It just makes lots of sense to me re; placement, cant of the assembly, etc. I've never owned one, but have held them at gun shows. I have average size hands, and the trigger /trigger guard feels so natural. I wonder why no "modern/current" hand gun manufacturer has replicated (at least none I can think of) that design.
