Cool guns, but I can't forget the bolt slicing my hand a long time ago.

That's a nice looking Model 97.
I bet the action is slicker than snot on a glass doorknob.

I have it's twin, a mid-30's 20" riot, obtained a few years back.
Strange thing is, when I first took it to the range, just happened to bring a bunch of rifled slugs. Was just messing around on a silhouette target at 50 yards. Then 75, and finally 100 yards.
That M97 identifies as a rifle. All it would do with those slugs was print little palm-sized or smaller groups, even using just the bead. Strange.
Enjoy yours.

Always think about the scene in "The Professionals" when Lee Marvin clears out the canyon with one.

I got a nice home made job. Gun was in excellent shape, originally a 30" FC. I salvaged the gun from a bubba home
Poly choke job. Cut barrel and was going to put rifle sights
on it. My gunsmith talked me into screw in chokes, seems he
always wanted to do. 97. I couldn't leave well enough alone
and put 8 coats of Birchwood on stock.

Cool factor is off the charts with the 97' Winchester IMHO.
My Grandpaw had one (not the riot) a 30" full choke gun.
It was his putting meat on the table gun. Killed many a Rabbit
and Crows as well. I can remember him letting me take it down
to the pond for a little shooting when i was 11 or 12.
I think my shoulder is still sore to this day from that old 97'.

That is a fine looking old solid frame. I had a 30" full solid frame my aunt picked up in a bar several years ago for $15.00. I gave it to my son. I still have a military riot model 12.
I could never get quite comfortable with that shaky old bolt lined up with my eye. Yet I know they are built very strong.

This old war horse has struck a chord on this Forum
Anyone else think it bears a resemblance to a nicely used pre-27?

I've had two M97s. The one behind the bedroom door was carried in my patrol car for a couple of years.
