Red face I don't collect High Standards but.......

When they offer them cheap enough I have a hard time saying no.

I grew up shooting one like this and still have it.
This one was just too nice to leave especially after trying the trigger "once"

Their advertising was:"Trigger breaks like a glass rod". And, it does. I still have my Victor, which I got in 1983.

Dad (86 now) has a 1937 Sport King and a HD Mil that is newer, like 1948? It was the first pistol I shot when I was 9 years old in 1969.

My first handgun was a Duramatic I bought for $69.00 in 1972. Still have it and enjoy shooting it every now and then.

Nice catch on an old classic, looks like you even have the box. The old guns are so neat, Larry

Great grab there Paul,

It's darn near impossible to leave those on the gun store shelf
if you can get them right.
I am like you that they are not my main focus of attention but
you gotta strike while the Irons hot as they say.
They aren't making anymore---- and with that quality.
They will always be desired by true gun nuts.

My dad had a Supermatic when I was a kid. It was the first handgun I ever used and I never forgave him when he sold it.

I understand to me that's what makes an heirloom gun the ones you grow up shooting.

I bought a new Sharpshooter in the mid 70s and use it in indoor bulls eye shooting for a few years. Then it sort of became a safe queen.

A couple years ago I thought of getting rid of it and took it with me to a LGS as a potential trade gun. I saw a gun I was interested in and had the owner give me a price. (at that shop only the owner can give a price) He basically told me he did not want the gun as they do not move and he would be stuck with it for a long time. So the gun is now back in the safe, when and if I decide to sell it, best bet you will see it on this forum.

I have a custom High Standard built by John Giles out of Odessa Fl. He was an excellent gunsmith who, unfortunately, passed away a few years back. His work was excellent and he offered not only the High Standard but a couple versions of he Colt 1911 as well as a .38. All were sought after target guns and I was fortunate to be able to afford both a High Standard and a 1911.

I have been looking for a barrel for a HS Model GB for a long time. The original has a huge divot at the rear of the chamber from dryfire and it won't cycle ammunition. The GB came with 2 barrels and I am mildly surprised I have never found one for sale.

My Hi-Standard Sport King was purchased used by me,under my fathers permit, when I was 14. 60 Years later it's still being shot by my grandchildren. I've yet to see one of these that has been worn out.
Great pistols that have stood the test of time.

Paul,
I never really considered a HS until I walked by a table at a Dallas gun show 6 months ago. Had the exact model you bought (Sport King) with the original box, manual. I paid $275 OTD.
I have been looking at a couple of target models # 103 and 104 at the FW cabelas recently but both are in the 800 range.
I guess I'm a HS collector now also.
George

During WWII High Standard made barrels for military contract Ithaca and Remington Rand 1911A1s. My 1943 Ithaca 1911A1 has a High Standard Barrell. You can tell by the HS stamped near the barrell lug.

Exactly! I have a 63-3 that i really do not care for myself but i taught both of my girlfriends boys to shoot with it so i feel i better save it to give to one of them. The other is taking a shine to my Outdoorsman.

Really like your HS A Sport King 102 is my first semi auto. Still own it.

My Uncle gifted me his before he passed, he bought it new in 1950. Other than the US Army 45 he packed in WW 2 it was the only handgun he owned. Both the HS and he were accurate.

I began to use it less and less, Dad's old Ruger and my 22 Masterpiece were used. My son loved the HS. I gifted it to him, was he surprised. He loves it even more now.

I picked up this little 2 in. Sentinel a while back. The hammer pawl spring
was rusted and had to be replaced. Neat little carry 22. The 2in is more
accurate than I expected. HDHIC

I do have the Marlin 81DL he had. I'm having it drilled and tapped for a small scope along with his vintage Browning A5. Lots of fun to shoot but I really miss that Supermatic.

I have an 81DL too. I got it in 1946, when I was 13. It was right after the war and the stock was a lot clubbier than late versions of that model. I've had it drilled and tapped and it wears a Weaver D6. I still have it and the peep sight that it wore when new.

Nice acquisition Weatherby!

The High Standards do have the most heartwarming triggers to use.

Have long wanted a Smith & Wesson Model 41, but a High Standard Supermatic Trophy ain't half bad.

Those are sweet guns.

When I was a kid after becoming a H.S. fan of sorts I longed for a Victor.
Just thought they were the cats meow.
Some 25 years later I did finally scratch that itch
