No revolver handy but I do have this big old custom bowie made during WWII to show off. Just ignore the BHP.

What a great thread. I've enjoyed seeing some of the old time custom knifemakers. I haven't seen knives like that in years!

We all have our priorities.

Posted this already in a razor thread, this is my "custom Continental and an El Dorado too" pic.

And just to ruin everybody's weekend, here's a pic that's not mine, I just found it floating around the webs.

Default I have a few to share

American Russian relations work well here...

And American Swedish here...

Modern Western, yeah I'd bring that knife to a gun fight...

More rustic old west styled....

And finally up close and personal...

It's been awhile, so I figured I'd add another pic. Here's a Smith and Wesson Model 27-2 with a Randall Model 1-8.

You have a No. 3 Boat Knife. Grohmann has always made the knives, but most have been sold under the name of the designer, D.H. Russell, no kin of the Russell boot people.

I have a Boat Knife with black Micarta handle in a bookcase near my desk. The factory gave the blade a bright polish, on special order. They also furnished both the normal pouch sheath and the Canadian Forces military sheath, which has a flap.

RCAF planes have sometimes carried the larger No. 4 Survival knife. You can also see this knife among the safari gear in Robert C. Ruark's safari article in, Playboy from April, 1965, if I recall the right date. Your library may have it. I don't know if Ruark actually carried this knife or if a staff member assembled the gear shown at Abercrombie & Fitch, etc.

Ruark did wear and recommend the Russell's Birdshooter boots.

The S on your blade indicates Stainless. I think the Boat Knife always had stainless, which was an option with other Russell knives.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. All I had known about it was from my late Father-in law, the original owner. He was the deputy leader of a North Pole expedition in 1967/68. Each member of the team was given/issued (late 1966) two each of this knife, one to use on the expedition(s) and one to keep for personal use. As you may guess, I received the latter from him.

My FIL only called it a "Canadian Belt Knife", and I could also read D.H. Russell, but not Grohmann or #3 anywhere on it. Doing a little research now, I've found exactly what you've shared, with the exception of the RCAF info on the #4. Very interesting history I'm not sure my FIL knew, or if he did, he never said anything. I know he used the heck out of the expedition one both on the exp, and at home long after. I never could find his beat up one, but am very grateful he gave me this one almost 40 years ago.

BTW, that is the original leather lanyard, and I have the original leather pouch sheath. I've had to clean the brass grommet/rivets a couple times over the years though.

Thanks again for the information!

Default Judge and Viper Dagger

Ok, last one for a while, I promise.. Kind of an odd couple I forgot about, but I really like both quite a bit.

Taurus Judge Poly PD. I got this on a hesitant twinge, but honestly glad I did. It's been a great little (err big sorta) revolver. Very reliable and it shoots both 225 and 250 grn .45LC POA to POI at 10 yards, and Win PDX .410 disc/BB similar at range. Hard not to like.

The knife was my first attempt at making (or remaking) one from an old beat up HK 91/G3 bayonet I had for a long time, but never got rid of it. I stripped/cut off everything down to the blade itself, modified the tang, re-edged it, and put on a custom Viper head guard, Juma snake scale handles, and a 2 piece custom pommel. One of my more personal favorite knives.

Here is my 27-2 with a Swiss Army knife that I carried for many years. Unfortunately it found its way out of my pocket and I have since replaced it with an exact copy. Only knives I carry. The Randall's in this thread are fantastic by the way.

Not sure where I was going with this photo but what the heck. Watch out for killer fruit. That's a Rada and an 18-3.

Here are a couple. A lightweight 45 Colt with a lightweight Benchmade folder. And a heavier 45 with a heavier fixed blade knife.
