Default Got another SKS at the pawn shop, are prices on the rise? (pics)....

I have enjoyed owning and shooting SKS rifles since the Great Surplus Rifle Days of the 1990's when unissued SKS's where under $100, a 1000 round case of ammo was $79. I had Chinese, Russian, even Albanian SKS, but wound up selling them as the prices rose to fund other gun buys.

About two years ago, 2014, as gun prices came back to normal after the 2012 panic and shortages, I bought a nice original Chinese SKS for $325 from a local pawn shop, I thought that was a fair price at the time. Lately, it seems SKS prices are on the move again, most gun shops around here (Southwest Virginia) seem to price them at $450 to $600, gun shows the same. More for Russian ones...

So I was excited to see another nice, original condition Chinese SKS the other day at the pawn shop for the same $325. Done deal!

This one shows by serial number to have been manufactured in 1974 at Chinese Rifle Factory "26", the other one I have was made at the same factory in 1967. All original and numbers matching:

With it's 1967 brother:

The slings and chest bandoliers that were once so common here in the USA, given away free with rifle purchase are not as easy to get. Gun shops and gun shows used to be full of them, slings for $2.00 were not uncommon. Ebay however, is full of vendors in China who have warehouses full of slings and bandoliers who love to sell them to us shooters in the good ole USA.

Anyway, it's almost hard to believe that I now feel excited when I see an SKS for $325, but that much money doesn't buy much in the way of guns any more. More to follow as we see how prices move after the election.....

Yes prices on everything surplus went up. About 10 years ago you can get new Yugo SKS for $150. Now they are $300 +/-. Mosins were $75 and now $220. Since around 2010/11 it all went up

Very nice - and great pictures. HRC would consider you to be a deplorable for owning such items! I have one SKS - a Chinese "Para" - but not a single round of 7.62. I guess it'll be no-plinking-for-me after NOV 8th ...

The last SKS I bought was $87.50 and a re-import M-1 Carbine was $100! I never lost any sleep over taking advantage of the owners because the set the price!

The first SKS I ever saw for sale was at a 1979 OGCA Columbus show. It was a Yugo bring back from Vietnam for $450. There was not 1 round of ammo available. Then came the Reagan years! and it was "ammo for everybody!" Ah yes, the good old days!

Every time I see someone's SKS I get PO'd. I was with the 101st Abn. Div. in RVN in 68. I had my own SKS all registered ready to bring back with me. I then managed to get Med-evaced and when my personal stuff finally arrived guess what No SKS.

I bought my unissued Russian SKS for $135 years ago. I would like to find an East German SKS at a price I can afford.

Got a used ChiCom SKS and a 20rd box of ammo for $65.00 including tax and a new ChiCom SKS with bayonet for $105.00 including tax at the same gun store here in Missouri in 1986.

From a sitting position, using the sling, I could head shoot a muskrat swimming across one of our ponds at about 65 yards using the old used SKS.

I tell you what. After I put a 30 rd magazine on my type 56 SKS I wouldn't hesitate to go into combat with it. That thing might never win a target shooting competition, but it goes bang every time I want it to. In the 30 yrs I've owned it never ever a single malfunction.

I bought a SKS and a case of ammo for about $150 for both about 30 years ago. I sold both last year. Sold the gun for $350 and the ammo for $650.

Just inherited a Norinco SKS in basically new condition. Obviously made for the US market. Any idea of value?

Put a Tech-sight? on a Yugo a while back and it is an excellent shooter that eats anything you feed it. My lgs had a bunch of what appeared to be brand new ones that were even consecutive serial numbers. I should have bought more of them!

Have real nice Russian that I bought a lot of years ago, its cherry and it looks to have never been fired, not amark on it. That one I paid $400. for it in a private sale.
The second one I have is a Romainian that I paid $250 from a dealer, it had all the goodies with it and its a great shooter.
They are a good bang for the buck and I have no regrets getting them!
