Never carried a knife except while hunting but 1 bad dude tried to kill me with a 007 knife in a NYC elevator in the late 70s.It cut clear through my winter coat to my undershirt.

A good thing I had a DS in the coat pocket with my hand on it.

I don't like knives.

Now that's a real life example of "Bringing a knife to a gunfight"!!!

I still have my little Detective Special, and they are one of the classic handguns. Glad you had yours with you that day, StakeOut !!!!

Best Regards, Les

My well-worn carry knife. A 1 15/16" blade switchblade. Auto-open is legal in CA as long as the blade length is less than 2".

The Boker automatic the advantage is that unlike most auto openers it has a coil spring to activate the blade, most have a flat spring. It snaps open with a satisfying "thunk" that feels like the slide of a semi-auto chambering a round. If you don't have a good grip on it it can jump out of your hand.

Mine have "triggers" and come straight out of the handle and no way to slice open my hand--unlike the kind flying out from the side. Some others I have are spring-loaded and come out the front.

These or those like these--are priced at our gun shows from about $55 to well-over $100-which is why I havent got one of these.

I never carry a knife with less than a 4" blade. Anything short of that won't hit a vital spot, and can cost you your life. This applies to self open, assist open, or automatic knives. I always have one in my pocket. When I worked in uniform I carried a fixed blade Gerber boot knife in lieu of a back up gun.
