How do I get the cylinder pin out??!!??
...of a Colt Saa if it's stuck in the cylinder?
Take the hammer out and drive it out with a punch?
I put it up because when I get frustrated, good things don't seem to follow.

The pin in my 3rd gen SAA I recently posted about is VERY tight. It took a lot of working it, very patiently, to get it out. One thing I like to do at home is keep a bucket with about 3 gallons of Ed's Red homemade cleaner/solvent handy. I pull the grips off my pistol and just drop it in for a while. This lets it get into all the nooks and crannies.
One of the ingredients in Ed's Red is automatic transmission fluid. It is a excellent penetrator and lube. You might try some on both ends of the rod.

Greg, cock the hammer full, use a brass rod, (I use a 8" piece of 1/8" brazing rod ), it WILL pass by, to the back end of the cylinder rod. Tap with your light tapping hammer.
A little 0000 steel wool buffing on the rod will ease things next time.

I had this problem with a long stored but new to me Ruger Bearcat. Kroil penetrating oil and patience is your friend. Then as Rog8732 suggests, a little smoothing of the cylinder pin along with a bit of lube will prevent the problem from recurring.

Thanks guys. I need to get some Kroil and a piece of brass rod.
This is actually a Bisley, but I expect it'll work the same.
I'll definitely clean everything up when I get it apart.
I first thought it needed a new hand assembly, but the cylinder has some play in it, and if I put side pressure on the base pin, the cylinder rotates and indexes correctly. I guess it'll need shimming or something.

Do you suppose the judicious application of heat would help?

My father came over this evening to use my shooting range. I asked if he had a piece of brass rod I could borrow for this, and he insisted on taking the revolver with him.
He's a retired machinist, and a hopeless tinkerer. It'll work when it comes back.
I really appreciate this, but I sort of wanted to see if I could repair it myself.

Thanks for the help. It's all apart, and a new handspring is on the way.

It's back together. The cylinder is a bit loose, but it shoots great!
Now I want to crack open this Colt DA38 and see what's ailing it, but I'm scared. It works in double action, but cocking the hammer doesn't advance the cylinder.
Thanks again,
Greg
