Default Rock Island .380

Wondering if anyone has had any hands-on experience with the Rock Island (Armscor) .380. It's supposed to be a mini-1911 and I like that it's locked breech.

Opinions? Experience? Going price?

Thanks.

I just read an excellent review of this pistol in Gun Test Magazine. I like that magazine as they accept zero advertising. They buy their guns on the open market and test them honestly. That way you know they are not being swayed by advertising money. I have yet to get my mitts on one but hope to be able to.

It's called a "Baby Rock". So is it as small as the Sig P238 or Colt Mustang? Also, I thought the Browning "black label" .380 was about the size of a Commander.

I've been looking but have yet to see one.
Everything I've read about it says it's blow back, not locked breech. The Browning 380 is locked breech.

The Rock Island pistols I've shot have been functional, but rough.

Not great fit and finish and odd add ons (e.g. Full length guide rods).

For fit and finish, they compare poorly with Colt, Browning etc.

Don't know about the .380 but I had a full size 1911 and it was great. I sold it to a friend. I will own another someday. I would not hesitate to buy the .380 if I was in the market.

It is not a pocket carry for most people at approximately 6.5 x 4.5 inches. Looks to be reliable from the reviews I have seen.

Here is a review and you can compare it to the Browning,
The Browning of course is more $$$

I saw one in the LGS last week, and it's quite larger than the Sig. It reminds me of a Star .380 I had back in the early 1970s. The Star was junk. After one box of the old Super Vel .380 ammo, you could field strip it just by shaking it around a little. To say it was loose is an understatement. Needless to say, I didn't keep it much longer.........
