Default Used Case xx Shark Tooth

I bought this Case xx Shark Tooth for $ 32.50 used today. A brand new one cost $200.00 at the same pawn shop I bought this one. They was asking $ 49.50 for the used one,but we agreed on $ 32.50. I had to clean the brass up with some brasso metal polish. It's sharper than the new one,who ever had it, knew how to keep a goog edge on it.

good buy. I bought a trapper with case for $10.00 at a yard sale about 12-13 years ago on the way to work one Saturday morning. it is from the early 70s and is carbon steel. I cut big stuff with it and rarely have to sharpen it. lee

If you also got its original leather belt pouch that was great buy. The prior user did not only know how to sharpen it, he had the skill to sharpen it without scratching the sides of the blade.

Since 1970 Case knives have had a date code on the tang. Ones older than 1970 can be roughly dated by the time period their tang stamp was used. I've only seen Pattern 97s or Shark Tooths with blades made out of Case's stainless "surgical steel" so I presume the word stamped under Case XX is stainless. With clearer pictures of both sides of the tang I'll look it up for you. As with most collectables, older ones may not actually be any better but if they are still in excellent shape collectors prize them more.
