Default Best 9mm by Best Manufactures

If you were compiling a list of the best 9mm pistols by the best gunmakers....what would be on yours?

For Sig a 210?

Walther: P5 or P88? Or...

Beretta: 92?

Colt: Government Competition?

H&K: P7

You get the idea.

What for Smith?
For Mauser?
Browning (Hi Power? What else?)

Etc.

Best? Best at what? Best accuracy, or carry pistol, or target pistol, or most reliable?

Okay, I say

Glock: G 19
S&W: Shield 9

Of major manufacturers...

HK: USP Elite or P9S Sport Group
Beretta: 92 Combat
S&W: PPC9 or 952
Sig: X5/X6 or P210
Walther: P88 Competition/Champion

My pick for best overall is the Pardini GT9.

All from a preference for accuracy/trigger/build quality/reliability.

Almost any Luger from any one of the seven makers (DWM, Erfurt, Bern, Simson, Krieghoff, Mauser, Vickers). Did I miss any?

Mauser Red 9. They're not finished as well as the earlier, peacetime pistols, but for all that mechanism to work, they have to be made right.

S&W: Model 39; anything else just isn't made quite a nicely.

SigP6 I got for $330 and shoots better than my Beretta 92FS. And possibly my BHP Israeli 9mm when the smith is done with it. Frank

You must be the only person in history to say the Beretta 9000 is the best 9MM. It was an abysmal failure and ugly as sin. The 92 is certainly one of the most iconic firearms in the 20th century, but everything since then has just gone downhill (excluding the awful 90-TWO). The PX4 is a good gun, but it's no 92FS. Racking the slide on a 92 feels like it's rolling on greased ball bearings.

OK=My picks:

Glock 26 (but all Glocks are much the same)
Browning Hi Power
S & W 39-2

Lugers jam too easily, esp with light bullets/loads (they have that 1/2 "jump from magazine to feed ramp/chamber)

C-96s are awkward and too big.

Exotic guns are too hard to get parts for (esp mags)

My favorites:

1) FN/Browning Hi Power (Belgium)
2) Sig Sauer P228 (West Germany)

I'm done.

There is no best 9mm because everyone's criteria is different. Not all guns are suited for all purposes. What you are getting and will continue to get are subjective personal preferences. For me I like guns that are all around performers that fit my hands and that I shoot accurately.

For me the top 3 are:

The Browning Hi Power:

The Sig P228:

Sphinx SDP Compact:

H&K P7
Browning Hi Power
Sig P229

Those above are ones that I own, but the list would have to include the Sig P210 and P6.

If it doesn't have to be currently manufactured the Sig P228 is a hard one to beat for accuracy, function, reliability, concealment, etc., ....

I was waiting for somebody to catch that. Putting the 9000 in the list is an expression of my unbridled LOATHING of the 92. The 92 is the only pistol I have picked up and shot that I cannot shoot straight no matter how much I try.

Honestly, there are better 9mm pistols, I just don't own a Browning High Power. ;-)

I own several Glocks, but I believe the 17 is the best they have to offer.

Many find it on the large side for concealed carry and will opt for a smaller model, but considering the totality of possible uses(Military Service/Police Duty/Home Defense/Concealed Carry/Range/Sport), I think it's overall the best model.

"The pre-2011 gen 3 G17's are the most reliable, bomb-proof pistols Glock has made, closely followed by G19's of the same era. Assuming you change your recoil spring when needed and are using standard capacity OEM Glock mags, you should be able to shoot 10,000's of rounds without ever having a gun related malfunction." - Dr. Gary Roberts aka DocGKR

How about this,,,,,a pistol that saved my life,,,A KEL-TEC P-11 9mm 12 round mag plus 1 in the bbl.
It was there when needed.
Never felt the recoil, noise was minimal, and it functioned perfectly.

Don't wait....I got it and it's wonderful. Just need to change the blue front sight insert to orange and you're good to go.

I have the same problem with the CZ 75...had three of them and sold 'em all as I just can't shoot 'em. Go figure.

H&K: P7

You get the idea.

What for Smith?
For Mauser?
Browning (Hi Power? What else?)

Hard to argue with your picks, Redcoat and good question, one I've pondered for years. For ME....

Sig (Swiss) P210
Sig (Germany) P210 Legend Super Target, or P226 X5

Walther P88 full Size

FN High Power

S&W 952 or M41

HK P7M8 Chantilly era

CZ75

Glock 17

Springfield 1911 Loaded

I only own two 9 MM pistols. Have been a S&W revolver person for most of my life and also carried a Glock 23 (.40) for about ten years before retiring. Of the two 9 MM I own (Beretta 92F and S&W Shield 9), I feel the 92F is the best of the two. My 92F was made in 1985 in Italy. It is smooth as silk, accurate, exceptionally well made with manageable recoil.

FN Hi Power
CZ 75

I just bought a CZ 75 SP01 Shadow last night on Gunbroker. As much fun as I have been having with my Tanfoglio TZ-75 I am REALLY looking forward to this Shadow.

Really? I've had a bunch and think they're smooth as silk and laser accurate in my hands. Even had a few Cougars. The Italians surely know how to build a gun. Too bad they've gone down the futuristic space looking guns road now. Even the 9000 was used in the futuristic movie "Minority Report". The CX4 looks like something an Imperial Stormtrooper would carry as he chased after Han Solo.

There's a whole bunch of really good 9mm pistols out there. You'd have to really get weird to screw up.
For me personally as a lefty my pick would be my CZ SP-01. Best version of the CZ 75 line with a great trigger out of the box and ambi safety. I've shot a few Hi-powers and I find the CZ is the Hi-power improved.
A real close second is my S.A. range officer in 9mm. Had to add a ambi safety but it is a surprisingly good shooter.
I have been told to shoot a Sig P210. I don't want to because I can't afford one!
Disclaimer: A Glock 26 is never far away from me.

Lots of great semi-autos out there, but if I were to buy a new 9mm today, it would have to be a Sig Sauer P225.
