Looks like it might be good for home defense.

To bad ruger has never remodeled the Redhawk to have the same grip frame as the GP100/SRH. They fit my hand so much better then the original.

You think it feels as awkward as it looks?

The marketing of an 8-shot .357 magnum snub would seem to be aimed at the concealed carry crowd who prefer revolvers. The S&W 627 PC fits the bill quite well although being an N-Frame it is borderline heavy for all day carry. I know because I own one That said, the Redhawk with it's even bulkier and heavier frame would seem to me to be less ideal for concealed carry.
S&W 627 PC = 7.6" OAL @ 37.8 oz.
Redhawk= 8.25" OAL @ 44 oz.

If Ruger could have squeezed in another round or two to justify the larger frame they would have had a real winner, but the 627/327 has all the bases covered as far as 8 shot .357's go.

I have dibs on the first one to be shipped to my local dealer. Looks like a cool revolver.
Ruger has been getting in the game more and more. Well, my game anyway.

I agree, I would rather go with a lighter weight N frame .357 magnum (most likely a TRR8), if only it came without the lock....
The Ruger may be good for people who want a nightstand gun but don't shoot that often, I bet it will have almost no recoil with 38+p ammunition. The shorter barrel seems a bit unnecessary but at least it has some advantages for gun retention.

I ccw the 7 1/2" Redhawk ever since they came out. The 2 3/4" barrel Redhawk no problem. It's ruger strong too. No screws to come loose.
