It took me a minute, not being a Cowboy, for your cowboy humor to dawn on me. Now I understand why you had to drink water from a hoof print...'cause there wasn't any other water for miles around!! Us tenderfeet are a little slow on the draw!!

I hope they are not still producing this gun. It had to be 12 years ago, I picked one up for a few hundred bucks. It was promoted as a limited edition. I have to say it is one of the most beautiful guns I've seen. To add, I've never seen a Colt as pretty as a Uberti.

Les, in my hoof print comment, I was trying to mimick the Texas Ranger in both 1969 & 2010 movies "True Grit."
LeBoeuf: There's times I've lapped water from a muddy hoof print and been glad of it.
Cogburn: If I EVER meet one o' you Texas YAY-HOOS that AINT lapped water from a hoof print, I'll...I'll shake his hand or buy him a Dan'l Webster cee-gar.

That exchange has always tickled me.

The picture is of Matt Damon playing the Texas Ranger LeBoeuf in the 2010 version. Notice the grip on his revolver... My photo was taken, I believe, in 2006.

I did see that movie, but I had forgotten that line. It was pretty good, but I'm still fond of the John Wayne version. Now that you point it out, aren't those the Mexican Eagles on the ivory grips? Anyway, they sure are handsome. I have owned two Colt made SAAs in the past, one in 44-40 with an extra 44 Special cylinder firred, and factory ivory stocks. I wish I had never let that one go. The only SAA I have now is a rather nice Italian made one made by Uberti if I remember correctly... Any way it's in .45 and I have one of the recent Winchester 92s also in .45, even though I don't think that was one of the original calibers. This Winchester is one of the ones made in Japan for Browning, I guess Miroku maybe?

I must be losing it, I see I posted some of this on the first page!!! Mea culpa!!.

Les, you are correct. One of the grips is the Mexican Eagle; the other is the US Liberty Eagle.

Sportsdad60, that is an absolutely beautiful revolver. I don't believe I've ever seen another Uberti with as pretty a Case Hardened frame. Super!!!

When I got married in Oct of '15 I bought me and my best man a SAA as a gift. They are a blast to shoot!

Although I wished I would have bought them with the checkered stocks.

I may have missed a post where the OP said if he has fired this gun.
(Other than post 33,where the weather was so bad that it affected his results, and range was only 50 feet. I saw that Capt. Curl fired 50 rounds, but no results or range mentioned. I think that was post 47.)

If so, with what ammo, at what range, and with what results?


I've shot just one, a genuine Colt with 4.75-inch barrel. It was at 25 yards, offhand, with Remington factory ammo, 250-255 grains. A .45 Colt, of course.


The bullets stayed in the black, but the very heavy trigger made it hard to shoot. It was not my gun, so I couldn't have the trigger lightened. Average, five inch groups.


By contrast, my New Service made in the mid 1930's, with 5.5-inch barrel, would put all six rounds of the same ammo in a single ragged hole on a good day. It was in excellent to new condition, too. I bitterly resent having to sell that gun and others to pay college expenses when GI Education Bill checks were late. It even shot to the sights. Most Colt DA guns need the barrels turned slightly to bring the front sight on target. Askins told me that he did that to practically all of the Colt NS .38's that he bought for the US Border Patrol. Either Colt got my .45 right, or someone before me had made that correction.

Here's the Cimarron Flat Top that I had posted about earlier - I just picked it up from my dealer today. Click on the pics for a larger version.




The rear sight is adjustable in its dovetail for windage, with a small screw holding it in place. Looks a little beat up on the top, like it may have been dropped a time or two.




The front sight looks like it pivots on the pin at the front and the screw in back clamps it in place, to adjust for elevation.




Appropriately, it has a bullseye style ejector rod. It also has the "blackpowder" style frame with a screw to hold the cylinder pin. The caliber is not readable here but it says .45 COLT.





Here it is paired with the .32-20 that I had also posted about earlier. The .32-20 is darker but it appears to be brand new. The Flat Top has seen some use.

The bug has bitten me ever since I first saw one of the "Custer 7th Cavalry Model" guns. Cimarron will be whom I get mine from. They have 2 id lik to get.

EDIT, I dont want the Scout version--so ill just eventually get two of the Custer version. I wonder what Companies I end up with?/

I bought a Cimarron Uberti in .45 Colt and with a 5-1/2" barrel. Like others, I did not like the red varnish they put on the grips. I stripped it off and was amazed to discover some nice walnut underneath! I gave it a few coats of Tru-Oil (IIRC) and called it good.

I once did some experimental shooting, firing a Colt SAA .45 with 4.75-inch barrel and my Ruger Super Blackhawk .44,with pointed fire at 15 yards.

It actually IS hard to miss a vital zone on a human silhouette, if one is a good, instinctive shot.

After I get mine, ill have Henry--my gripsmaker go to guy, make some out of Maple--but I havent finalized what designs I want. Probably two bicentennial quarters in it-or one and some other "Revolutionary" design?

^^^ In my opinion, it is a mistake to put on too much finish. I want to avoid a thick, gloss finish that looks like plastic. In days of yore the guns only had a thin coat of some kind of organic finish (tung oil?), so a thin coat or two is all I ever give mine.

I have "F Co." as well. Bought mine a couple years ago. I have a .45 acp cylinder I need to get fitted to it.

What's so funny is that is supposed to be a limited production gun. The limit must have been set super high. I got one around 10 years ago when they first came out. As far as I know, only one survived. They say it was used as the model for the Uberti/Cimarron. Likely in a museum somewhere. Mine is so pretty that I never shot it. Still in the box.
