Good looker, that's for sure.

Just think how many of the originals disappeared after the Custer fight, probably in Canada.

Fantastic pictures of a really fine pistol. The Uberti copies are about as close to the real thing you will come without remortgaging your house. Now you need a 5 1/2" Artillery model as a complement to the Cavalry.

SPEEDGUNNER, I will give you my wife of 26 years' phone number. You need to convince her of that 5 1/2"

Thanks!

I love those kind of revolvers, as I shoot SASS. A fine piece you have now.
What caliber did you get?

Thank you,

Very nice. I have had two Colt manufacture SAAs, and let them both slip out of my grasp, so to speak. I now have a Uberti, and it is a nice revolver, but not as glamorous as yours!!!

Best Regards, Les

Did you replace the cylinder screw knob with a screw like the
originals had?

This came with the screw already in it. The knob was in the box.

Sounds good. I couldn't figure out whey they would go to
great lengths to replicate this 7th Calvary model, and then
install the modern round knob to hold the cylinder pin in place.
I guess public sentiment had something to do with it?

Even though I have a couple of Ruger Blackhawks I don't particularly favor single actions. But I'd snap up a Uberti like yours at the right price.

I picked up my Cimarron in .32-20 yesterday. Some years back I had passed on buying a 7-1/2" USFA in .32-20 for $700 at a gun show - this was couple of years before USFA went under. Regretted it ever since and this is about as close as I can get without spending a mint.

Click on the pics for a larger version.

I'm not a fan of the red stain that the Italians use on their single action grips, same as many other folks. You'd think by now they'd know that Americans don't care for that. I've been looking at some discussions on various forums on how to strip and refinish them to look more like American Black Walnut. I also don't care for the gold medallions on this gun but maybe they'll be okay if I can get the wood looking more like what I want.

Still waiting on the Cimarron Flat Top in .45 Colt.

Enablers!!!!

After reading this thread I just ordered a Cimarron 1873 7th Cavalry.

That .32-20 looks mighty tempting also!

For years I've been threatening myself to buy a Colt SAA clone, so now I've done it. Some time back I had a Colt 3rd Gen. SAA in .44 Spl. Let it go in a trade and probably shouldn't have.

I'll try to give a report once my Cimarron arrives.

Thanks! Looks like you got one with nicer case coloring, and your grips don't seem quite as red. Interesting that the caliber is not stamped on the barrel but I assume that a cavalry Colt (which your gun replicates) was not stamped either.

Does yours have a Cimarron stamp on the top of the barrel?

I once handled a 3rd Gen Colt SAA with 7.5" bbl. It pointed so well that I wondered how it would be possible to miss with it!

Mini range report.
34 deg with a 45 mph wind blow sideways on the range. DANG it was cold!
I used a standard one grip stance on both the 45 colt and S&W 357 magnum.
I only had 20 rds of 45 colt with me, 10 shot. 1 shot (the first) I think I completely missed the target at 50 feet!
Definitely not a good day to shoot and froze my butt off, thus the low hole count in the paper. With the black sights of the Colt 1873 on the black paper, this wasn't a good combo.

The Cimarron Colt 1873 Cav revolver was a pleasure to shoot! The hammer really functions nice and the trigger breaks crisp, cleanly. I don't have a trigger pull gauge but I would guess it's got a 3 lb pull. Slightly less than the S&W Mod 66 .357 mag.
The one head shot was intentional with the .357 mag.

Mine came today on the UPS truck. Hell of a nice revolver!

Now I'm waiting for dies and bullets. .45 Colt brass arrived today also. I can't wait to shoot this piece.

Like some others on this thread, I should never have opened it. But I'm glad I did!

Cimarron got it right. The caliber markings on Colts for the first few years was on the left side of the trigger guard towards the back like is on the OP's. I am not sure what timeframe the caliber marking on the barrel started.

Somehow I knew I would get called out on that. It's sundown here, so no proper light. I threw it out on my workbench under lights and snapped this one to produce proof.

In due time I'll have to take some proper photos.

No you didn't outbid me on dies. I ordered dies, brass, and bullets from Cheaper Than Dirt last Friday. The brass came today. The rest of the stuff is to be delivered tomorrow. I don't know why they shipped in several lots.

I haven't even had mine a day and I'm wondering if the "Evil Roy" model is worth considering. It is supposed to be slicked up considerably. However, mine is pretty slick right out of the box.

Beautiful Curl! What company did you get? (Bottom of frame...I got F Company which I was hoping for since I am a fan of "F Troop" )

The "Evil Roy" is on my WANT list too. Apparently a slicked up trigger too!

That tells me that between 4000 and 6000 have been sold, unless it was old "New Old stock".
I know of folks that have had theirs stamped "C", "E" and "F" company but not I or L yet.

Stamped into the butt of the backstrap is the company and 7th Cavalry markings. Production of this model is limited to 2000 units each of the 5 companies (C,E,F,I,L) that will perish under Custer’s command at Little Big Horn.

If they have sold that many of these revolvers I'm impressed. Do you recall when this Gen. Custer U.S. Cavalry series first came to market?

"I'm not a fan of the red stain that the Italians use on their single action grips, same as many other folks. You'd think by now they'd know that Americans don't care for that."

I like to think I'm as American as the next guy, and I like the red stain very much. Reminds me a little of the stain Winchester used to use on their rifles.

I do not know but when I was doing my research on the innernets there was a fellow wrote an article in 2008.

They *may* have started with F Company too. Captain Yates was in charge of F company.

....*most* Americans....

Bob, you may be the first person I've ever heard of who likes the reddish stain. Lucky you! New toy arrived: Cimarron Colt 1873 7th Cavalry

So this morning I went to my shooting range with my new Gen. Custer U.S. 7th Cavalry .45 Colt. I put 50 rounds through it. It is quite accurate and operates as smoothly as the genuine Colt I had some years back. In fact, it really is a clone of the Colt. Without markings you wouldn't really know one from the other. I'm happy!

Here is a phone photo I took at the range.

Why did I open this thread... Ever since getting my Ruger Single Six, I have been thinking about a SA gun in a bigger caliber. Of course, these seem to be very well made for the price... Maybe after I pay Uncle Sam this spring...

Nice guns and great pics!

Here is a brace of Cimarron Uberti .45 Colt revolvers I bought back in 2005 when I first got into Cowboy Action Shooting. Sound revolvers. I'm still using them. The first photo is with Buffalo Brothers grips.

Oh, and I've drank water from a horse's hoof print and was glad to have it!

God bless,

This is a brace of Uberti "Open Tops" in .45 Colt that I also use in Cowboy Action Shooting. Bought one through Cimarron and the other through Taylor's. Good guns!
