Default Anyone know about the M-1911 with a "BB" stamp?

I found one displayed as "New In Box" at a show today and was surprised to learn that its said to be rare with some difference of the barrel bushing. Was told that only about 1500 were made and this was in 1969. The "BB" is stamped under the Serial Number and it did appear to be non-fired with a box and paperwork. I'll be very interested to learn what made this so special if you don't mind sharing your knowledge. S/N 333XXXC
I have been unable to find any account of it in the Blue Book Of Gun Values or the small Colt books that contain pertinent information about the brand. Thank you for your help!

Colt used late 60s era guns with the new 70s series barrel and bushing. As far as I know the only difference between a BB and a 70 series would be the roll marks and maybe the grips. Is it wearing plastic or wood?

Default Thanks for the replies

Can you tell me if this was cause for a high asking price or is it just the New In Box condition and the box, of course? The grips appeared to be plastic, thanks again.

There is one on GB for $1,998 as a starting bid. I have several Colt 1911s and over the years have had at least 200. This is too high in my opinion. Might be interested at half that.

They are a bit collectable.Another one to look for is a 70 series Combat Government. There were about 1300 of those made in '82-'83 Anyone know about the M-1911 with a "BB" stamp?

Curious as to what the seller was asking.

Was this at the Winston Salem show?
