A friend of mine had one. I forget the exact problem, but he never could get it to function right. He put it on consignment with a dealer and it took several months for it to sell.

Para makes good pistols, however their magazines are absolute garbage! I got a good deal on a Para SuperHawg long slide 1911 a few years ago when my LGS took it in trade because the original owner couldn't get it to work well. The shop has sold a lot of Para Ordinance 1911's over the years, nearly all have magazine issues. Mine would feed from one of the three Para mags I got with the pistol. Never had a hiccup with my Colt, Wilson, MecGar or ACT Mag magazines.

I'd say the Warthog is a good deal at that price since the Warthog cost $750 plus, just be prepared to buy some better magazines to feed it. Midway sells MecGars for $22 to $25.

Default A Different Opinion

I have seven Para double stack 1911s including a 45 ACP and 40 S&W warthog and 45 ACP Long slide SuperHawg. All function without any problems except ONE mag won't reliable feed the SuperHawg but works in 2 other 45 ACP 1911s.

I agree that if they work (mags & guns) you are happy. If things don't work, life gets frustrating. Ammo can be a problem. 230 jacketed RN worked fine, one gun would not feed lead 230 RN. All will feed 200 gr lead SWC with OAL = 1.250" and taper crimp at case mouth = 0.469" . The shoulder of the SWC is about 0.010" to 0.020" out of the case.

I have a LDA version of the Warthog. ParaCarry 12 and never had a function issue with gun or mag. Feeds Ball, Fed. Hydra-shok, Win STHP, and Speer Gold Dots just fine! All my 12 round mags are Pre-ban factory and kept unloaded when not in the carry rotation. (I have 1 factory 10 round also, it is fine!)

Para-Ordinance thrives on IPSIC rule changes, and is at their mercy also!

The Canadian made Paras are top notch.
My "Truck Carry" is a Para P12-12+1 45ACP.
I had to re-spring the pistol (Wolff) when I purchased it 2 years ago from a friend whose collect I bought up (it was a 1994 pistol) but its very accurate on the range.
Was the Warthog made in FL or Canada?

Para USA was bought out by Remington a year or so ago, and they are in the process of moving everything that is left to Alabama. I say "left" because it seems that a lot of parts were sold off by Para before the transaction.

I found an Expert Carry .45 for $350 NIB at a big chain retailer who just could not sell it in December '16. I called the CS phone, and they have limited resources right now. The price was ridiculous, and the implication is that if they can't fix it, it gets replaced with a Remington 1911 of some sort. They suggest I use the Kimber Ultra springs when needed, as they have none available to sell as spares.

I needed a toss-in-a-box (yes, in a sticky holster, before I get sniped at) truck gun, so it seems a deal. So I bought it. It shows signs of test firing (CS guy says it was built in 2013, and it is dry as a bone).

My LGS guy says it is a dangerous buy, as they have a real hard time selling Paras as consignment, even dirt cheap.

I took the risk, but all things considered, if I was in the market for a primary 1911, it would be something else.
