Default Kimber wheel gun/J frame

While we discuss the new Colt Cobra I would be remiss if I failed to mention Kimber's new six shot J frame sized revolver. It is lightweight, has a concealed hammer like a 642, among others, excellent trigger, .357 Magnum rated, and pretty nice looking. I handled one for several minutes at the Safari Club expo. That 6th chamber really does make it a fascinating little carry piece.

Whether it will set the market on fire or not is a whole nuthuh smoke.

Sorry if this is an uninformed question but it begs to be asked. So if this kimber wheel gun has a 6 hole, 357, the cylinder, the cylinder must be close in size to a K frame's. Are you saying the gun is J frame size and weight but with a K frame cyl..... or is it more like a model 66 vs 60?

The Kimber's been out a while. One just made the showcase at my LGS. Don't know anyone who has one. In any case, I doubt either the Kimber or the new Colt offering will make much of a dent in the J frame market.

Default KIMBER K6

I have one, pics in this forum. Its not a J frame for sure, a little bigger and a lot heavier. I would say its a little smaller package than say a model 64 or 66 snub, but dimension for dimension i couldn't tell you.
I carry j frames in my pocket 99% of time, ( i have 3, a 342 airlite, 337 airlite and a 360SS) but the kimber i would carry on belt or inside pants.

il like the idea of it can't wait to handle one. the more refined versions look really niecesespecially the polished first editionlimited run but it's 2 grand
I see a place for this personally as a guy who usually carries 38 special. 6 rounds of Speer in a smaller package than my k frame is appealing...problem is there are so many older smith I can put the 900 bucks towards. I'm gonna see how they play out then maybe pick one up used down the road

Kimber squeezed a lot into a small cylinder. I understand that the narrow part of the cylincer (where it is shaved flat) is not much wider than a J frame, if at all. The part where the cylinder lock bolt engages is a bit wider. To me, the experience is about the same as carrying a Detective Special. Here are some photos that I've posted elsewhere on here.

Also, as I've mentioned elsewhere. I really really like this revolver. I collect and regularly shoot snubs. This is quality. It's still priced too high. It should be a $650-$700 gun. Maybe in time. Most folks would be absolutely right to pass it up at the $900 MSRP. Only reason I bought one is sort of an academic interest. Snubs are my thing.

Carried in a TT Gunleather KX Lightweight designed for Colt D Frame (Detective / Cobra). It's not a perfect fit because of the trigger guard shape, but close enough.

For revolver fans, I say "the more selections, the better" S&W, Charter, Taurus/Rossi, Ruger, Colt, Kimber, Dan Wesson--more fun

You are quite welcome. I've posted more photos in other threads. Don't want to make too many duplicates. You can find them by searching my recent posts if interested. Also, I am glad to take closer photos upon request for anyone. Not cracking this one open again, but I can tell you that it looks a lot like a J frame centennial inside.

This platform lends itself to longer barrels. I'd buy a 3" and 4" if they would build them.

The Kimber is nice, but I always want a hammer on most everything but a pocket pistol. I am trying to decide between a Charter Arms .45 revolver, or a model 60. The model 60 costs more, but I have always been a .45 fan. It isn't it great to have choices.

I think the shaved cylinder on the Kimber is brilliant. I'd like to see a web page with all the dimensions of all small revolvers.

It's the size of a Colt DS. It was engineered by Grant Cunningham and made for the "dedicated snubby fan".
