My affinity for 45s has returned...
I mistakenly sold my only 45 a year or so ago.. a 1911 and felt like it was a mistake.... now I have plenty of other calibers but missed the feel of the 45, so I picked up a shield... wow, minimal recoil even in this small gun, so my son gave me a Springfield for Christmas! Man I love it...
I really like the 9mm but there is nothing quite like the "push" of shooting a 45... What say you? And share your 45s with stories if you like!

My first handgun when I turned 21 back in the '70s was a Series 70 Colt, which I still have.
I've never been without an M1911 or a .45 of some sort ever since, be it Colt, Springfield or Norinco M1911s, or Colt New Service or S&W M1917 or 25-2 revolvers.

.45 ACP is a great round. I have gone through a few too many 1911's in my days. So I stopped with a commander size Kimber Pro Carry two, two tone with the aluminum frame. I used to be an Airline Mechanic and worked many times with T7076 T6 it's as hard as metal. It's so hard you can't really file it and it eats up drills. So I have no problem with the aluminum frame 1911's. Enjoy your 1911. Sounds like you have a great kid!

I have the same Springfield. Great gun, better than I am!
My son would try to talk me out of it, won't happen.
I don't like wimpy guns.

Maybe it's me but every house should have a 1911.

I have a some 45 acps but prefer my 45 Colts. They give a little more "howdy-do" down range.

1911. They are as good once as they ever were even if the design is over 100 years old.

I bought a Ruger convertible .45 Colt/.45 ACP just over a year ago thinking it would be cool to take it out with my Kimber Ultra carry.
I haven't shot that Ruger yet with the ACP. It's just right with .45 Colt. I feel like I might be cheating myself with the ACP.
The Kimber goes to the range every time.
Both are fun and both are great shooters.

You won't be. I bought a NM Ruger .45 convertible back in the '90s. I used to have access to unlimited ACP and I seldom used the Colt cylinder. Accuracy is just great.

I like a handful and if I want to plink I've got the bases covered.
But I can see it being fun with ACP. I really like the .45 Colt except the price.
I guess I better put the ACP in it and find out what I'm missing.

Love the 45acp. Has an interesting history, and my Ithaca and Colt 1911s are my favorite pistols

Learned to shoot pistol with a 1911. Carried one every day I was in the Army. Soon after I got out, picked up a Colt Series 70 MkIV that I still have. It's almost no fun to shoot, it's so stupid accurate. Recently, added an M&P Shield 45 that's become my EDC. The 45 might be old, round and slow, (so am I), but it'll always be the first one I reach for.

I own five revolvers in 45acp and and a couple of Sig P220's. It's my favorite caliber to shoot, and though I appreciate the model 1911 for its reliability, accuracy and great trigger, I'm not a fan. Am I bad? LOL.

Ya just gotta love those old warhorses. Even the WW II issues have 75 years plus on their bones and still put em downrange without problems.
Fun shootin?....you bet....just seem to need that same after range TLC that any other fine mechanism requires.
Love shooting "history in your hand" wondering where that pistol has been and what it may have seen in other peoples hands so many years ago.

Everyone should have a few .45's in the stable.
1943 Ithaca 1911A1 (military contract)
Colt 1911A1 - Military Reproduction of 1942 model (1 of 2,500 made in 2002)
S&W 1917 Commercial (1929)
Great fun at the range.

I have carried a .45 since my Sheriff's Office changed from .357 revolvers to the model 645, when it first came out.

45 is the caliber I shoot the least but I have 6 of them. That's two more than I have in 9, which I shoot the most
I always found the 45 handguns to be cheaper than the 9

Nice to see another Deputy on the site! I am the POST certified firearms instructor for my Sheriff's Office and would love it if we went away from the Glock 22.

I have a old 1914 army 1911 that was a G.I. ruck sack bring back with some primitive trench engravings on it. it has been in my safety deposit box now for several years.
but I also have recently been bitten again by the 1911 bug acquiring a nice Kimber ss ultra raptor and just last week I picked up a lnib Sig nightmare carry
I still have a lot of 9mms because they are cheaper to shoot
but I found a steal on some new 45 ammo right after Christmas for $9.95 a box and bought some, and have been wishing I would have bought more at the time
