SIG 320 wins military contract
The Sig P320 is the U.S. Army's New Sidearm
(C) Popular Mechanics/Kyle Mizokami January 2017
I am not sure I understand why the DoD would choose a polymer gun for use in the heat of the Levant but there you have it. Dollars have to have something to do with it. The P226 seems like a far better choice and what makes this SIG better than the current M&Ps that are similar?
But nobody asked me.....
Hmmmm.....this was already a thread....oh, well, all negative comments can come here, I reckon!

It's not going to melt there. Glocks are already being used there, so are Sigmas and ARs with all sorts of plastic grips and stocks. Not to mention plastic clips and other no firearm things
The 226 is already in use, so is the 228 and 229. They have more parts, and need gunsmithing. The 320 replaces all three. You can make it full size or sub compact. Same gun. You can change calibers. You can go from a 9mm FS to a 40 sub compact with the same gun.

More like the Army asked for a modular system and Sig was the only one to make it.

Well, okay, I stand corrected. 6 excellent reasons for the Army to select the SIG 320. Not my reasons; this guy's reasons:
