Mine's beside me at the computer as I type this. I did 'pretty it up' a bit with checkered grips and Novak night sights. The book says it may not shoot target SWCs, but mine does just fine with them. Same with the Speer JHPs it carries for business. Great guns!

I've had one since 2006 but I did add improved sights, a beavertail grip safety, and tuned the action a little. I liked is enough I purchased a 9mm Compact Tactical a couple years ago. They both eat anything I have run through them.

I also have one, it is on my right hip IWB as I type this. I bought this about a couple of years ago and have run a couple thousand ball, semi wadcutters and JHP through mine. The fact that I am in a public place with this pistol locked and cocked under my hoodie should tell you how much faith I have in this one.

Nice looking Compact! It's been a while since I've taken my GI to the range. I need to slip it into the bag, so I don't forget it next time.

Mine came with a beavertail safety and a burr hammer. I sure like the Novak night sights, as I'm usually on the computer at night and it's right beside me if I hear 'noises off'.

I just bought a new Rock Island GI Commander .45, wasn't really wanting one but the price was $343 shipped so I thought I would try it. Love the gun! I put on checkered walnut grips and cold blued the white logo and it is darn near perfect. It is very accurate and reliable and all the controls feel right and with just bigger sights and a trigger job it would be perfect.

Can't comment from personal experience about the Officer or Commander models but the few full size (Tactical & GI's) I've shot worked like a champ.
IMO, the RIA guns are hard to beat for the money.
I read someplace awhile back that Armscor was the largest producer of 1911's in the world.

I have owned colt gold cup, combat commander and kimber 1911 and sold or traded them away. I now use these RIAs for the shooting I do and am very satisfied.

I have a (RIA) Tactical in 9mm, 5". So, I needed a Tactical 2, in commander size. This 1 is a .40 S&W. it has F.O. front sight. Like shooting the .40. Do have a Sig, & S&W in 1911 also. Both are .45's. Bob

I am a RIA fan. I have three 1911s so far, a full size in 9mm, a full size in .40SW, and a mid size in .40SW. I like the fact that the models I have came with ambi-thumb safeties I also have a Legacy/Citadel compact in 9mm. I had to have an ambi-safety installed. All shoot great and I have never had any problems with any of them. Very good firearms for the price. The .40s shoot better than a high end Colt in .40SW that I had for awhile.

Today it was the lightweight commander Ruger's turn.

35 rounds (five mags) at 7 yards.

Don't have a compact, but love the full sized.
Never did like the slick smooth wood grips though.
