Default HERITAGE REVOLVERS

I have been looking at the inexpensive Heritage .22 revolvers for sale at Academy. Clearly they are not S&W Model 617's but then they are not $800 either. Anyone own one? Are they fun plinkers? Thank you.

I have had one for awhile, it is my "basement" gun, there in case I need one while outside. Mine does not have the extra 22 mag option. I was pleasantly surprised with the accuracy for the price. The safety sometimes gets in the way, all other single actions don't have the feature of the Heritage.
In short, mine is worth the money for my intended purpose.

I have 2 of them and they are amazing for the price. I had to use loctite on the screws because they kept backing out but thats it. Everyone else is good to go. I probably have 15,000 rounds through the first one and its smooth as ever. Made in USA too.

I got one a few months ago....the all steel, 6.5" barreled version with the fiber optic sights. .22LR/.22 mag. I've only had it out once but it is a fun, accurate gun to shoot. Excellent value for the money and I would recommend one to anybody.

While working at an LGS, we sold bunches of them. Can't recall a real issue coming up. Many were bought for purposes such as something to leave on the tractor, trappers slogging through mud, a 'kit gun' to pack in with camping stuff, etc.
For the money, not too bad. And zinc doesn't rust.

Mine has been good fun. It's pretty accurate. We have the magnum cylinder, and have fired a couple hundred rounds of magnums through it along with countless rounds of 22LR.

I did experience an issue just past the one year warranty period. The gun would no longer fire. Hammer would not drop all the way. I researched the problem on youtube and discovered the cause to be a broken cylinder hand spring. Apparently the issue is not uncommon. I used Heritage's online chat, and they sent me a new part for a few bucks. The spring was pretty easy to change out, and the gun functions like new again. I have the standard alloy framed 6 inch gun. They do have a steel framed version, but it's about double the price of the alloy gun.

Heritage, by the way, has been owned by Taurus for several years now.

I have the 6 1/2" with the cocobola grips.
Its a poor mans Single Six.
Mine shoots the 22 Mag better than the LR .
Not a bad choice as a starter gun to learn the basics for the young ones also .

Thumbs up

Now that you mention it.....I've gotta get mine out again and shoot it some. Completely forgot it was in the safe when the boys and I went 22 plinking the last time.

Yea, it's actually a fun gun to plink with!!!

I'd pay the extra and get a Ruger Single Six. Still way less than $800.

these little SA's have been around for way over 20 years, when my two youngest were 6 and 7,( there 32/34 now) I bought them both a rough rider to start them into the gun world with.

we spent a lot of Saturday's on the range with them teaching them about gun safety and how to shoot. and those are great memory's and was cheap entertainment

The little guns were accurate and reliable, with my only issue being needing to apply lock-tite to the screws as already mentioned, they would shoot loose, but the old colts will do that as well,

both my son and daughter sent several boxes of what ever was the cheapest bulk ammo I could find those days shooting the guns and learning the basis, and actually became quite efficient with the little revolvers

the guns are long gone now but the memory's and skills are still there

back in the summer my daughter hosted a bbq here on the farm and invited her co workers and they spent some time shooting on the range with there handguns

there was one of the guys she works with that was shooting a sig mosquito and bragging about how accurate the gun was, I came into the house and got my old ruger bearcat out and handed it to my daughter, her co worker soon had to say " I give" and she had not shot a single action in years

after the bbq she asked if she could borrow the little ruger,

maybe I need to buy her another rough rider so I can get my old ruger bearcat back

I know I sometimes get long winded but I am an old man now and this thread brought back good memoies

Thank y'all very much.
I didn't even know I wanted one of these until I read this thread, now I'm thinking heck yeah I do.
I found the 6.5 and 4.75 plain Rough Rider at Buds for $124.00 shipped, and the 22LR/22MAG convertibles around $150.00.
At those prices it seems like it would be a fun plinking gun for sure, without breaking the bank.

I have a friend who has a Heritage SA .22. He's not a heavy duty shooter and has probably not shot his more than 1000 rounds, but he's had no complaints. I think I fired about one box through it when he first bought it. Tough to beat for the price, especially for someone who is likely to use it only occasionally.

I once had a Ruger Bearcat, grips were way too small for me. I have bad memories of it, but not because of its small grips or shooting performance.

I bought one once for $100. It was a cheap revolver that had a very smooth action, and was very accurate. It looked like it had some sort of pot metal frame. I sold it for a profit, but sometimes wish I'd have kept it.

That's the extent of my knowledge of them. Hope it helps.

I saw some at a gun show today for $119 in .22lr and $140 in .22 WMR. It was hard to resist, but I did.

I've had a few of them, but they didn't impress me. I'd save up a little more for a Ruger Single Six or Bearcat.
