Default Beretta Pico Range Review

I picked up a new (3rd Gen?) Beretta Pico over the weekend, and wanted to give a review. I paid $239 for it.

I say 3rd Gen, because as I see them:

Gen 1: Original Release
Gen 2: Upgraded Model
Gen 3: Upgraded Model with new slide

As a basis for comparison, I have carried and extensively shot the following models as pocket guns: Sig P238, S&W 642, 640, and 442 Custom Shop, Ruger LCP and LCP Custom, Kahr CM9, Glock 43 and S&W Shield 9. I have not owned but do have trigger time behind a Sig P938, Bersa Thunder CC, Springfield Armory XDS-9 and XDS-45, Glock 42 and 26, and a S&W Bodyguard 380.

I have to say, so far I like the Pico a lot and plan on keeping it.

Pros:

-The sights are great.
-The construction feels solid, much more so than other small pistol in this size/price range.
-The all-stainless construction is nice in this price range.
-The harder to manipulate magazine release (prevents mag dump in the pocket).
-Trigger is smooth and not too heavy, but still enough to be safe.
-Takedown is very easy, and the modular construction is amazing for the size.
-Magazines are well constructed, and again, stainless, even with metal followers.
-A nice large slide stop that is usable, but also out of the way.
-Slide finishing is great, clean quality roll marks, well dehorned and even the serrations are positive, but well finished (I had an LCP that had blood drawing slide serrations).

Cons:

-The biggest con is the trigger travel. It is LONG, and just when you think you've reached the end, there is still just a bit more before the break. This combined with the very short trigger reach at the break causes me to nosedive the pistol at the very end of the trigger stroke far more than I do with most other DA pistols.
-I wish there was a mid size magazine baseplate between the flush fit and the full pinky extension. This would allow me to get my ring finger on the gun, and still be very concealable. I think even making the gun a little taller and making it a default 7 rounder wouldn't be a bad idea.
-I wish it had a firing pin block.
-Frame is slick (didn't jump around during live fire, but I'd appreciate some sore of texture).

I had some issues manually cycling the slide at home, and having rounds hang up on the feedramp, but at the range I had zero issues (like Kahr pistols, it really needs the full force of the recoil spring to chamber a round). I used the following ammo:

Hornady Critical Defense JHP, PMC Bronze FMJ, Winchester White Box Flat Point FMJ, Tulammo Steel Case FMJ, Perfecta FMJ.

In conclusion, it carries a lot easier than a pocket 9mm or snubby revolver, and it is better built and more reliable than my LCPs. In my opinion the only nicer pocket pistol out there is the SIG P238, however they're double the cost.

It's a keeper!

That look too small. I'll stick with my LCP Mk 1.5, the original shape with the bigger sights and better trigger.

My brother bought one to replace his BG380. He said it was too small to shoot so he put it up and still carries his BG 380.
I tried it and it is too small to shoot. It's like my NAA .22LR. It"s cute but of no use.
Everybody don't like the same things so if it works use it. Larry
