First outing CZ-527 FS "Mannlicher"

I celebrated the new year by scratching an old itch, buying a new "Mannlicher" style rifle. Didn't have a lightweight sporter rifle in .223 Rem. and this seemed a great time to get a "Mannlicher'! Picked out a new CZ-527 FS a few weeks ago and got her out to the range today. The "mini Mauser" action is and I hate to say it "cute". Pretty much zeroed out of the box with Hornady 55gr sn's with the factory iron sights and only shot it at fifty yards as I did not bring my waders to get to the one hundred yard stands, a lot soggy this time of year if not frozen. Was pleased to get around one inch (give or take a smidgen) with that fuzzy looking front sight! Really do not think I'm going to put an optic on it as that would spoil her lines. Anyhoo thanks for looking and keep shooting folks.

I bought a CZ 452FS .22 magnum in 2011..... it quickly became my "walking in Penn's Woods" rifle..........with a 1-4x20 Leupold it will shoot 'under the cross hairs" all day long...... tightest groups are in the .9moa range...................

I'm now up to 9 CZ rifles; 452s in .22 and .22magnum, a 453 Varmint with single set trigger in .17hmr and a trio of of 527s in .223 ...........

these include 4 FS/mannlichers ........... two in .22lr, the .22magnum and one in .223...............................

I also have a 452 FS in 22LR. The wood is just spectacular and far and away my favorite plinker. (rifle anyway).

I really like the CZ 527 series. The third one from the top did get traded off and replaced with a Varmint model .223, in a HS Precision stock.

A few years ago I traded my S&W HE 4th model and Colt PPS .32/20's for a CZ 527 American .222 Remington and gave it to my brother, as he did not own a light weight, small bore, center fire rifle. He loves it.

They are neat. Bought this 527 .223 Carbine several years ago, and like you, it was so handy I didn't want to put a scope on it. But since I had a mini-14 and an M4, I sold the 527 Carbine and bought an American in the same caliber, which I have scoped. But, I don't have a picture of it, so here's the short one:

How do you like the one in 7.62x39?

Wow, there seems to be a bit of interest here in the CZ line of rifles! My first CZ was a 9mm 75B last summer and was really impressed with it. Figured a look at the CZ line of rifles was warranted and it seems that impression was right. Even if you are late to the party it seems you can still have a good time!

Best 'bang" for the buck in rifles out there ............mini and micro Mauser actions, old world quality and with a little luck wood to die for!!

I got 5 of mine used...... from <$300 for a like new .22 Trainer to $450 for a anib 527 American M-1 in .223 (guy trading a gift from his Dad for a Glock).

I did buy a new 527 FS/mannlicher in .223 ...... for just over $700....

I have a 452 FS in 17HMR... and agree... a scope will mess up the lines... and I will stick to that until my eyesight goes to the point I need one.

I have two CZ rifles, both of them mannlichers. The first was a 455FS I've had about 5 years now. I've used this rifle with and without a scope over the years, depending on my mood. I think I'll go back to irons, probably Tech Sights, this spring.

My second is a CZ527FS in .223. This is a newer production rifle with a 1-in-9 twist rate. I've shot this with irons and a few different scopes before settling on this small Leupold 1.5-4x. The exposed tactical turrets are unnecessary, but the illuminated reticle, small size, and minimal weight are well suited to the rifle. I may swap on the 2-7x Rimfire from the 455FS onto to see how it handles with a bit more magnification (if not weight, as the 2-7x weighs about the same as the 1.5-4x Mark AR). It's sub-MOA with good ammo and a cool barrel, but it heats up quickly and strings - fine for a hunting rifle for sure. I'll have to pick up a heavy barrel Varmint if I want to kill bullseyes all day.
