Ruger Standard .22 value...
Local shop has a 1962 vintage Ruger Standard, tapered barrel, comes with two factory mags and a holster. Have bought consignment arms from this shop before, but I think the asking price of $425 is a bit high. Any opinions?

I think it's high also. But that's about the going rate here.

Probably a bit high. Are they the original chrome bottom mags? They have some value themselves, but they rarely work properly so you'll be buying replacement mags too.

I have a really nice one that I would sell for less than that. It's early 70s, I believe.

I would think to high, this one cost me less than $200. It's got some wear but I would expect that considering it's 60 yrs old. It came with only one magazine and runs perfect.

Assuming it's not one of those higher in California situations, it seems about $125 to $150 high to me.

Well, the geniuses here in CA have deemed new Ruger Mark pistols to be non-compliant, so I can't purchase a new one. Probably the reason why those "evil" guns are priced so high here. Will probably pass on it unless we can do some negotiating...but, seriously? Too dangerous for us local yokels to purchase?

Around here the Mark II's command about $400. I've seen several older such as the one you describe go for much, much less. I wouldn't pay over $300 unless it was pristine.
And keep in mind, the older Ruger's (don't remember the year) use 9 round magazines which can be hard to find and more expensive.

Just as a point of reference, my stainless Mk 2 - 4" pencil barrel - was $275 today. No box or anything, and it needed about three hours of work to clean it up. I'm soy-tenly not an armorer or a gunsmith, but it had been fired so much that the firing pin was peened at the end. It was almost to the point where the f/p was frozen in place - but some emory paper brought it back down to size. These Ruger's cannot be beat - good catch and pick up!!

The Red Eagle grip early editions (49/52) get quickly into high dollar value if in nice condition, but the price sounds high for a Standard Model made in 62 even with the extra mag. A shooter Standard Model is just that unless for some reason the buyer is set on a very early one or a non-pre-fix ser# gun, ect and just has to have it.
Prices vary a lot in different parts of the country though. But $425 for a fixed sight, no hold-open 22 pistol these days with what else is around is kind of steep when comparisons are made.
I do like them though and was the first handgun I owned. $41 and change brand new . Long gone in a forgotten sale or trade but have been tempted to buy another just for the old times sake a couple of times. That's where the $425 price tag comes back into play,,how bad do you want that one..

I paid $300 for this '54 three years ago.It came with two original mags (neither works properly) and wearing after market plastic grips.Picked up the wood grips on eBay for $25 and a Mark II mag for another $25.Its an accurate shooter.Pop cans at 50 yards are fairly easy with it.

"...Well, the geniuses here in CA have deemed new Ruger Mark pistols to be non-compliant,..."
Wondering what about the newer Ruger auto pistol(s) makes them fall on the side of non-compliant in CA. I don't doubt your word of course,,just wondering what the Wizards of Nonsense are up to in other parts of the Country.
