Well This Fell Into My Lap Friday...
Had not even a clue that these existed until Friday. Went patrolling around the local gun shops as I do when I want to get in trouble with the wife, and saw this sitting in the case NIB.
Spent a day researching it, and then went back Saturday and picked it up for what appears to be a pretty amazing price comparatively speaking with what I see for sale nowadays.
It is a Remington UMC 1911 Commemorative, manufactured by Turnbull under commission from Remington. It appears to have been a production run limited to 1,000 units, and from the serial number on this one it was built towards the end of that run. If anyone is familiar with Turnbull, then you know the quality they put out.
Fit and finish are excellent, although I've admittedly only racked the slide once, and that was to clean it. Going to give this to dad for Christmas...ain't I a great son or what!

I saw one last year at Cabela's in Fort Mill, SC. It's a beautiful pistol, and the commemorative package is top notch. I do hope you got a good price on it. I'm sure your dad will be bowled over with his present. Don't know if I'd have the willpower to wait until Christmas.
Just wondering...how is the holster stamped on the back? Just curious which manufacturer Turnbull used for the repro, because a whole bunch of companies made those holsters for WWI and WWII.
EDIT: I just remembered. There is one little quirk about the Turnbull commemorative pistol, though, and it in no way diminishes the beauty of your pistol. Some guys on some other forum were nitpicking Turnbull and the gun when it first came out.
It seems the placement of the slide serrations on the Turnbull pistol are a tad off. If you look closely, you'll see the serrations on the left side go all the way back to the notch for the thumb safety. On the original Remington-UMC pistols (pictured below), they do not.

To be honest, I haven't even removed the holster from where it is sitting. Guess I had better check it out.

No big deal...just one of those random thoughts that popped into my brain. I'm thinking it might be Boyt (Boyt Harness Company in Iowa). They got a government contract to begin making holsters for the 1911 in WWI. The Sears Saddlery Company in Davenport, Iowa was another company who made the M1916 holster, as was the F. M. Hoyt Shoe Company in Manchester, New Hampshire. Everyone wanted a slice of the government contract pie.

Well, it's a long time 'till Christmas. Hopefully, you will test it out at the range between now and then to make sure nothing is wrong with it. Wouldn't want to give a defective gift.

Don't wait till Christmas. Father's day would work. That is one beautiful pistol. You are a good son and your father is going to be super happy. That is one great gift for him.

Watchdog, you are right in that I too read that the slide serrations were a bit off.
