Mr. Glock doesn't know squat about "perfection" until he puts a Dan Wesson 1911 in his little Teutonic mitt. This is my ECO in .45 acp.

You cant change it back without welding and silver solder. Clark charges about $4000 for a 38 special. There is more to changing than meets the eye. I was asking do you know who converted the gun?

Default Colt 1920 Commercial

Greetings,

What a bunch of great looking 1911"s! I found this one at the LGS at the end of last year around November. It's a all original 1920 Colt Commercial that according to my Colt letter has spent it's entire life right here in Los Angeles, Ca. It shipped to William Hoegee Corporation sometime in April, 1920 and was part of a three gun shipment. I think I stole at at $1800.00 but who knows.

Brown-Baer Special Forces from early 1996, well before Ed Brown was making their own frames and slides.

Sorry I misunderstood the question. I did ask the question when I bought the gun but the seller could not tell me who was the gunsmith was. The gun is silky smooth with low mount bomar sights. The slide was cut to accommodate the 38 WC. The barrel is marked 38 special conversion. I will detail strip the gun to see if there is any markings that may gives a clue as to who did the work. BTW. It is a bit more tolerant to ammos than my M52-2. The bullet can protrude a little bit and it still chambers where the 52 need a flush seated bullet.
Thanks

I only own these two 1911s. A Kimber Custom Eclipse II and a first year production Browning 1911/22.
The Kimber was given to me by my uncle. He used to do competition shooting with it, so he had a lot of custom work done on the pistol before I got it a few years ago. What a great shooter.

A Cylinder and Slide chopped 1911 (two guesses as to the overly-dramatic model name) and my homemade 1911 with a off-brand frame and a Brazilian army surplus slide.

This exact same 1911 ScE was reviewed on The Truth About Guns blog. I bought it from the author a couple of years ago.

I own a total of 6 1911s I have a 1914 bring back with trench art that stays in a safety deposit box with my 3 digit 1900 colt auto

I have one 1911 star b model in a tractor tool box that looks rough but still shoots.

and recently I have added these 4 to the collection after falling back in love with the 1911 single stacks
the first photo shows my 45's a sig nightmare and a Kimber ultra raptor with there leather

the next photo shows my 9mm's another b model star and a micro 9

Okay, looking at all of those beautiful 1911's made me raid the safe for a photo op.

From the top left; Series 70 GM in 9mm, Series 70 Gold Cup .45, pre series 70, "C" prefix GM with Black Tea finish and VZ Aliens, Series 80 Officer's mod, stainless, w/sambar stag grips (my EDC), Remington Rand early 43', above it a pre series 70 GM in .38 Super.

From the top right down: Series 80 Stainless Combat Commander, .45 wearing VZ Operators, a Delta Elite in "gunmetal gray" with Novak Night Sights and VZ Operators and last but, not least an Ed Brown, Executive Elite wearing VZ Aliens.

The "C" prefix GM was acquired from the estate of a bullseye, three gun shooter. It had already been modified for an adjustable Micro rear sight and retained about 70% of its original finish. This was the first firearm that I had ever sent off to be refinished. I spoke directly with Mr. Birdsong, at the time, and selected his wonderful finish. 4,000 plus rounds later, it barely shows any wear.

The Delta Elite was a pawn shop rescue and had blue loss and slight pitting on the front of the slide. This was the second firearm that I have ever had refinished and I added he MHS with the lanyard loop. It is my bedside firearm.

This thread always makes me want to look for a new 1911. Can't help it. Maybe I should get off my duff and finish my scratch built dream pistol with all the features I really like.

Vertical cocking serrations, flat msh with a lanyard loop, short wide spur hammer, pre A1 grip safety, half moon front sight, fine deep checkering on the trigger, hammer, slide stop and thumb safety (like a post WW1 commercial pistol). Polished and finished off with a deep deep blue and dressed in a set of blonde colored razor sharp checkered walnut stocks. I know its not correct for any period but its ideal to me. Taking some artistic license with the design, sort of like the USFA 1910 from a few years ago. What I wouldn't give for one of those!

Sorry, I was just thinking out loud and drooling on my keyboard.

Here's one 1911, a Dan Wesson V-Bob in 45 ACP. I polished the slide flats and put some stag grips on it. One of my favorites.

My Colt Mark IV/Series 70 in stainless. It has some handling marks. It's a shooter. That's what I bought it for. Had it a few years now. It actually no longer has the arched MSH on it...has a flat serrated one for the time being, but will end up with a flat stainless checkered one.

Funny thing about this pistol. I had one exactly like it. Never fired it and ended up selling it (and its baby brother .45 Defender, also NIB) to a guy in Tennessee. Then, just a month or two later I think, I turned right around and bought this one. I just couldn't be without a Colt Government 1911. Just couldn't.

This pistol will be undergoing some changes in the next couple of months. If all goes as planned, it'll look a bit different next time you see it. Nothing major, but it'll be noticeable. Cosmetic stuff only, by the way...no "accurizing", no fancy match barrels and bushings, no trigger work, no polishing to make it "fit together better". Frankly, it doesn't need any of that stuff. It does what it was made to do just fine.

The holster was custom made for me by Alan Palomba of Wylie, Texas. It's based on an old Al Stohlman design.

I sure want to encourage you to create your dream 1911...it certainly appears from your posts that you need another one!! (Just kidding, I really admire the ones that you already have!!!)

If you build an extra one, I know a guy who would sure love to have one!!!

Best Regards, Les

I've seen this pistol before, I think. Maybe on this forum? It's always struck me as interesting. Anyway, I like it...for whatever that's worth. Really like that high polish deep blue job on it.

Yes, you got a great deal on this pistol. If that pistol was in a case in an LGS here, it'd be priced at at least $2500. And if you saw it at a Cabela's, it'd be over $3K. There's a 1920s commercial 1911 for sale at an LGS near here and they're asking $1999...and it doesn't look anywhere near as good as yours.

Here are a couple more 1911s: A stainless Colt 38 Super that was customized by a good friend.

And my Kimber Eclipse in 10mm and 357 Sig. It's going on 10 years with me. Although the finish is picking up some holster wear and scratches, it still works great.

Colt shipped this one in 1965.....

Two recent additions. A Ruger in Commander Size, and a Dan Wesson Guardian (made by CZ) in .38 super.

Here's an Argentine orphan I adopted last year. She has really fit in with the family.

I don't have but one.

Norinco, 1911a1. 45 acp.

I guess I'll get around to shooting it before long.

I had wanted a 1911 for quite awhile and seeing photos in this thread makes me want even more of them, especially vintage specimens. After quite a bit of thinking I decided to look around again, I recently lucked into one via trade.

It's a mildly customized Ruger SR1911 lightweight commander from either 2016 or 2017 that I picked up via trade recently. The stainless slide was cerakoted by a local shop in a blue/black/gray color. The mainspring housing is a chainlink pattern, trigger is serrated, the rear sight is a 10-8 and the front sight is a Trijicon. In the box were the original parts, Ruger grips, and grey/blue/green VZ grips.

I gave up a PM-9.

Default New Kimber Super Carry Ultra + New Shoes

Kimber Super Carry Ultra+. Picked it up last Thursday and the Sambar grips came today from Spresser Grips.

3" barrel with an 8 round capacity + one in the pipe.

Next step after break in, back to Kimber to have the frame done to match the slide.

Late to the party. Here's a couple.
-Colt fixed sight .38 Super Match. Serial# dates to 1937, but gun was shipped in 1940 to England for the war effort.
-Clark Custom 61-S .38 Special built on a Colt .38 Special Kit pistol and a Colt Series 70 GM built into a Long Heavy Slide .45
-Colt National Match .38 Special Mid Range.
-S&W PC 1911. This is currently my favorite shooter and a Colt Gold Cup Trophy.

A couple more.....
-A 1964 vintage Colt GM with a early postwar .22 Conversion Unit upper. Many thanks to member 4barrel for allowing me to purchase an absolutely mint period correct magazine for this Conversion Unit. Many thanks again Gary, couldn't be happier!!
-Colt Series 70 .45ACP that has been customized with a Wichita sight and a wonderful trigger job by RK Customs.

I've got several 1911's but my favorite of all is the first gun I ever purchased - a Colt Series 70.

It is nickel plated and it has a blued brother who escaped from Chicagoland about 20 years ago. I will try to post a shot of both soon. The nickel has worn very well over many rounds.

Default Colt 1911 with SW sights

Hello, I didn't see any colt 1911's with smith and Wesson revolver sights! The left is a combat commander nickel, the right a 70 series govt model that's hard chromed. Work done by Bob Cogan @ APW.

Got some great grips from a forum member this week and put them on my Springfield GI.
The previous owner did all sorts of accurizing work to it.
It's a sleeper.

This Kimber is now my only 1911. From first time seeing and holding it I have just so liked it. Fits my hand like it was special ordered for me.
