Default Remington 41 Rimfire Derringer

I don't think this thing has been refinished; but, it bugs me because it looks like a new gun. It's a UMC gun, so probably from the teens or twenties. . .one of the newer models. The nickeled hammer, trigger, extractor, and screws bothered me. You know how we evaluate Smiths when it comes to the hammer and trigger. After doing some research, I discovered that the later models did have all these parts factory nickeled. . .the earlier ones did not. The gun has been fired little if any. Do you all think this is the original finish?

I had the identical gun manufactured in 1903, in good mechanical order but the finish and grips were worn.

Nice, Doc...you keep coming up with really cool stuff!! I have often been tempted to find one of these. I recall that Navy Arms came out with some ammo back in the 70s if I remember correctly.

Great find!!

Best Regards, Les

I just got home after browsing Cabela's in Short Pump Virginia (their gun library) and they had a really old Remington .41 Rimfire derringer just like the one you posted above.

All finish totally gone, I mean bare metal all over, grips looked really worn out. They had a tag $449.0

No one even showed the slightest interest, including me for a very worn derringer at that price. Rusty worn badly Luger with mismatching numbers and looked like a modern mag (MecGar or??) at $1999.00.

No wonder at Cabela's it's usually lookers, no takers.

That one of Docs looks almost too good.

I'm going to look into Dixie. I would like to shoot this thing. That's great news on the Luger. I let one pass a month ago for $700. It was all matching with nice grips but badly pitted on one side. . .a WWI one. The one I got 10 years ago for a little over $300 is all matching but had pitting on the left side. I took out the pitting by hand and it is a great shooter. Just an Eastern European export from post 1968. I always figured a $1200 gun, but a Cabelas bargain at $2000! Makes me feel really good about it. Here it is. Been posted a few times before.

shoot Doc;

Your's at Cabela's would be $2,999.00 easy...all day!

In fact they did have a 1908 American Luger at $3,995.00!

Did also have a very good looking S & W Model 27 in wooden presentation case with tools, mop and all still in their little baggies......but $1,879.00

Like I said.....I only go into Cabela's to bolster my own personal feelings about my own collection. I just don't ever see anyone checking out with guns from the Library...I do see them checking out and doing 4473 paperwork, but it is always over at the new gun counters and their prices on new stuff are no real bargain....same as BassPro, same as Greentop, and other LGS...maybe a buck either way.

The Gun Library also bothers me that it is always so danged dim lighting in there. I know it is called "sellers light" but when the manager comes out (usually when I pop out my mag lite to see refinish evidence or something) I always feel he ought to wear one of those old green bankers eye shades to sit in the corner and count the sheckles or something.

Didn't mean to highjack your thread....even if your was re-nickled it still looks like one could at least shoot it....the one at Cabelas should not even be on display in my opinion.

If you intend to shoot yours inspect the hinge area very carefully. These pistols have a design flaw and are very prone to cracking in that area. If it's cracked I would NOT advise firing it.
