Default M1 Garand

Briefly looked at this M1 last week as I was waiting to buy some ammo. It has replacement wood, but seems like a nice gun. Just figured I'd share.

Older lead-dipped receiver Garand, refinished over the old pitting. Even if the barrel is new and in great condition that looks to be about $500 too steep.

That said, I do love the Garand. The earlier WWII guns with the lead-dipped receivers hold a special place for me.

I love mine from the CMP, but I have other things I'd rather have than another Garand. The wood looked nice & was oversize but I would rather have an original one that shows the bumps & bruises.

I would suggest that you take a look at what the CMP South Store has to offer. It is my humble opinion that you would do much better with them than the example you recently inspected.

Just go Civilian Marksmanship Program | and see what they have for sale. The price the gun store is asking should get you a pretty nice rifle from the website.

Both the South and North Stores are a bit out of driving distance for the op.

My '43 CMP service grade is about 370,000 higher in s/n

You can get a brand new made to order Garand at Fulton Armory for about $500 more.

That is about an $800 shooter, I wonder what they would ask for one with the original barrel and stock.

Many, if not most, M1s have replacement stocks. That's normal for the long period of time they were in service. Ditto for barrels.
