If I read it correctly, I believe your Single Six dates to 1956.

My Ruger New Model Super Blackhawk .44 Magnum shown below with
some of my favorite holsters Left to Right:

DeSantis Dual Angle Hunter (Front view) and 2nd from Left (Back view).
Very handy for wearing cross-draw, like when carrying a rifle slung over
right shoulder.

3rd from Left: Oklahoma Leather Slim Jim and cartridge belt, Buffalo
Bore ammo, Solingen steel blade, handle & sheath by Phil.

4th from Left: "Keith Style" made by HC (Henry Cassady) Leather
even better than the Lawrence version, if that is possible.

5th from Left: Another Oklahoma Slim Jim, this time in black.

There was a guy on Rugerforum (.com) who collected the early Single Sixes with the Micro sights like yours, screen name "Americal." I believe he has passed away. He lived fairly close to me, and we corresponded some but never met in person.

Only have two, a Single Six convertible and a Super Blackhawk. I did use the Super Blackhawk to shoot IHMSA silhouette back in the mid Eighties so it has seen a lot of magnum loads. On the other hand, the Single Six has probbly not had the magnum cylinder installed half dozen times in thirty five years.

I only have two now, one is a 1971 Blackhawk in .41 magnum (sights slightly modified by previous owner) and the other is a Lipsey's .44 special, with a SBH hammer. Had a Single Six for years, but in the heat of the moment I swapped it for something I don't remember. Dumb I reckon.

I picked this up last week. The SBH has been my favorite Ruger and my favorite single-action since I was 12 years old. I've had several over the years, an original like this one, and a couple stainless versions. So I was pleased to get this for $550 OTD, it looks like it hasn't been handled much, let alone shot.

Now, I haven't forgotten the finger trauma that square trigger guard will inflict with magnum loads, so what I'm really showing off is my new .44 Special!

I own a pile but these three are likely my favorites.

A Flattop 38 WCF.

A 3-screw 44 Special.

A 3-screw Bisley 44 Magnum.

If you have two Single Six's,, that have sequential serial numbers,,
are they worth more than two random serial numbers??

I took this picture just yesterday to accompany an article I finished which will probably appear in a future Blue Press issue.

This is an original old model "flat top" .44 Magnum Blackhawk. It was made in mid-1957, in the first full year of production. It sports factory Sanbar stag horn grips - offered at the time as an extra-cost option. Stag and ivory-gripped Rugers of this ilk are considered very rare.

The plum-colored loading gate is legitimate; the color was caused by variations in the bluing salts - this is pretty common with early Rugers.

The cylinder base pin is collared - a later variation designed to prevent the pin from working lose under recoil. It was probably retro-fitted to the gun by its previous owner.

This Ruger was the property of an Arizona rancher who carried it often as a trail gun. I purchased it from his estate, and am proud to have it.

John

I finally got a picture of the .22s. One original Single Six, unmodified, one .22 Magnum with transfer bar, and one vintage Bearcat, also unmodified. The Stag grips were sold to me along with the Bearcat; I have the original grips, too.

Paladin85020 That is amazing collection. Thanks for sharing.
I have been bitten recently by the ruger bug. I would like to find a early 3 screw 44 or 45 with ruger stag grips. I look forward to learning more about them.
