Happened into a deal last night that I was not sure about, but the money amount seemed acceptable. Bought an older Charter Arms Undercover .38, a junky RG .22, and a .50 cal muzzleloader from a guy for 170 bucks. The muzzleloader is going to be a wall hanger. The RG (if it works) is going to get worn out at the range by my girls and grandson. The Charter Arms is actually in nice shape and has a pretty tight lock up and decent trigger. It will make a really acceptable back up/ hideout gun. Let me know what ya'll think about the deal.

Seems fair==none are really anything to write home about but you should get use out of them.

If the Charter shoots decently and reliably I'd load it with some good SWC or old Nyclads if you can find them, (i.e. nothing too hot that will wear out the timing) for a good little car/camp/backup gun and if so I'd say you did OK on it alone. You could call the other two 'lagniappe' as they say down in New Orleans, just a little something extra.

I think so too. Think maybe the Charter was worth the majority of the amount. The RG is definitely junk.

I've spent more on a nice dinner out with family and friends, so while nothing I'd be interested in, if you are happy, then you made a good deal.

I my neck of the woods that Charter Arms Undercover would easily bring $200-$250. I think you did Great!

Three functional guns (I'm betting that RG works) for $175 is a deal anywhere in America these days. I think you did well enough you could easily sell the Charter Arms for $175 and keep the other two. If you did that I wonder how many folks would consider two guns for free just an OK deal?......lol.

Sorry, but not a Glock fan, maybe a Sig or another Smith though!

The muzzle loader was produced by CVA many moons ago.

You could get them as a finished product or in kit form..

I got one as a going away present when I left the WHP. I built it and
had a lot of fun with it. I put a .50 ball through a dead 1500 pound angus bull just to see what it would do.

The bull had been struck by lightning during the night and I did some test firing on the carcass.

That's a pretty good old gun if you are so inclined.

Just found out the Charter was made in 1966 approximately. Read that the earlier ones were marketed as "a pound of protection" due to the 16 ounce empty weight. Charter says they all are +P rated, but thinking I will not test those waters.

The Charter Arms is a good gun. You got a good deal on that. Enjoy it.
I don't know much about the muzzle loader, but if you're happy, that's cool.
However, I have had some dealings with RGs in the past. They are junk to the point of being more dangerous to the shooter than the target. I WOULD NOT let anyone, much less a child, shoot that ***. My recommendation is to take it apart, smash with a hammer and scatter the pieces in the nearest lake or river.

I am really surprised RG made so many guns. I have read so many reports the guns were junk laying in a box that says it is a gun.

I would put the RG on armslist and sell it for $150.

I was going to post the same advise about the RG revolver. I too say don't let anyone else besides yourself handle or shoot that gun. To say that they are "junk" is being disrespectful to junk. ...... Even when in new condition they were unsafe. ............

I have an alternative for the OP. Hang the old muzzle loader on the wall. Then test fire the Charter at least a few dozen times. Make darn sure its dependable. If it is, put it to work as planned. if it misfires or you can't hit the side of a barn, sell it as suggested.

Then save the RG as an investment. The next time some fool anti-gun group puts on a gun buyback, go visit with them. Allow them to pay you more than its worth. Even the full $170.

Charter Arms aren't S&W quality, but they are good solid guns.
I love my old Bulldog 44 special.
