Default Anyone up on Lugers ?

1970's import by Interarms. NIB 9mm
Not much on the net.
Came with what appears to be a 1944 marked
unissued German holster.

That's an Interarms Mauser Parabellum, since Stoeger owned the Luger name at that time (and still may for all I know).

There's actually quite a bit of information about them in the post-WWII section of the Luger forum:

Pistole Parabellum

The moderator there actually wrote a book I found very entertaining about these guns.

I have one in 9mm and one in .30 cal, they both shoot very well.

It's in the Swiss style or maybe the early German style with the grip safety. It's not in the German military style. I bet the holster is a repo.

That's an Interarms American Eagle from the 1970's. As I recall Interarms, who was a major importer of all kinds of weapons in the 70's, got Mauser to make a run of "replica" Lugers in both 9mm and .30 Luger. They are very fine weapons but are not really the "original" Lugers of WWII fame. But they are a very high quality...I hesitate to call them a reproduction?...of the Luger by one of the original manufacturers.

At the time, Interarms was the sole U.S. importer of Walthers and many other brands.

Technically not a "Luger" as Stoeger bought the U.S. rights to that name early in the 20th Century (1918?). They could not mark them "Luger" for that reason. But they are called that in popular usage.

And the way the holster buckles, I believe makes it a Police style, rather than a Military style.

I only know enough to know that the name is spelled LUGER....

Interarms (Ye Olde Hunter) in Alexandria was a fun place to hang out in the early 1960's!!!

That's the Swiss version, based on the Bern 7.65mm 06/29. I had one, like yours, NIB. Finally broke down and shot it. Great pistola, if you could tolerate the grip safety, horrible trigger and tiny sights. Still fun to shoot, though.

It has the Swiss Luger style front grip strap (absolutely straight) unlike the American Eagle (1900, 1906, 1923..)and the Military P08 styles that have the slight finger rest curve at the extreme bottom of the front strap/

I don't remember that the Interarms Lugers paid extreme attention to original Luger Model/Contract/Year details. But I'd guess it is one of their 'Swiss' versions, the first style made.
They didn't sell well (seems like they were $300 back then in the early 70's). The style was the big reason,,everyone wanted a 'German Luger' and if they were going to pay that kind of $$ for one it had better look like one, and be n 9mm.
The first run Swiss style had 6" bbls and were 30cal. They then made them in 4" 9mm. I think they ended up making them in both calibers and bbl lengths.
The P08 style wasn't a big seller either,,same complaint of too expensive,,after all you could still find and buy a near pristine 'real one' with a holster generally for about the same money.
Then the complaints of jamming started, real or imagined. Hey,,it's a luger after all!.

Interarms called them 'Parabellums',,couldn't use 'Luger' as explained above. Stoeger still owns the Luger trade mark name in N/A.
Those Stainless Lugers made in Texas some years later sported the Luger name after Stoeger bought into the company making them (Aimco), but those are gone now too.
They got a bad rap for QC though some were fine. Mostly investment casting used there.
Those Texas/Aimco/Stoeger made guns sometimes get confused with the Mauser/Interarms venture.
Two entirely different tries at resurrecting the Luger.

I think they are great guns. I recommend them when asked to recommend a shooter Luger. Mine is extremely accurate. It did require some break in rounds before it became reliable. I use the 124 grain NATO load from Winchester in mine. I also purchased some of the current manufactured MEC-GAR mags from Brownells. They work well.

Here is a great article on the history and development of the interarms guns:

http://www.forgottenweapons.com/wp-c...unFacts%29.pdf

I shoot this one regularly. Keeps the wear and tear down on the vintage guns.

I have a friend who writes gun articles. He recently wrote an article, with his photos of my father-in-law's Luger that he brought back from "The War." James was one of the finest men I ever knew.

Thank you for viewing James' WW2 trophy Luger.

I am a fan of Lugers, though I don't have an extensive collection. Several of my Lugers have been displayed on this forum in years gone by.

My DWM 1900 American Eagle:

These are interesting and historic pistols. If only they could talk!

I very nearly bought an Interarmco Parabellum back in 1970, but at that time I was between jobs and didn't have much cash to squander on guns. I don't remember what the going price was at that time, I seem to remember about $150. There was a brief writeup about it in the 1970 Gun Digest, Page 104.

Maybe six months or so ago, I found one on a table at the local gun show, looked like it had not seen much use and was still in the original box. I don't remember exactly but I think the price tag on it was about $1200. High enough I wasn't interested.
