Default Kimber K6S

I see that Buds now has the Kimber K6S. I like the looks of the gun and hoping that Buds would get it in at a fair price but they Want $899 for the thing which is a big $20 below full retail. No way am I paying that for it. Around $700 I may pull the trigger but if it never gets down to that price range then I never will own one.

They have been on GB selling for $775 (standard model). As this gun is delivered to more suppliers it may drop into the $700+ range. It depends on how long one wants to wait to save a few dollars. I have and one with lasergrips and I find it to be a very well made firearm and being about the same size as a 640 and having one extra round, this was a no brainer for me. I have a few hundred rounds downrange and it now has become my primary carry gun.
My net cost from GB delivered and transferred was almost identical to my 640pro with LG350 grips added.

I had the opportunity to handle one last week. Evidently one is part of the package for "Friends Of NRA" dinners. It is definitely bigger and heavier than a 640, but appears to be very well made, and it had absolutely the smoothest trigger pull I have felt in a long time. It wasn't necessarily light, but was very very smooth. As far as I am concerned, it has the Kimber pricing (25% more than they are worth), just like all Kimbers.

In my area the number arriving is much smaller than the demand, so no one is even considering lowering prices. They fly out the door at list ....

640Pro, K6S, Ruger SP101 3"
Kimber and 640 both at 23oz. Ruger obviously heavier.

I handled a K6S today. It felt good in the hand and had an amazing trigger pull. It seemed well made but the cylinder release button looked like it may be a stamping. Expensive but probably a good revolver.

I snagged an as-new one today for a total of $800 - BUT the gun came with two 5 star speedloaders, a full box of Hornady 110gr XTP +p .38, 2 leather pouches for the loaders and a nice little leather belt holster. The guy needed to sell it for some emergency cash (we have all been there at some point!).

I really like the feel of it and the trigger pull is pretty sweet. It does not feel much heavier than my steel J-frames. The gun is a lot smaller in person that pictures show and my SP101 seems longer, heavier and taller by comparison.

If fits perfectly in my Simply Rugged Pancake holster that I use for my J frames when I belt carry them.

Love the 6 round capacity. Looking forward to wringing her out on the range soon...

Yesterday the wife and I were out shopping and we stopped into a couple LGS that I normally only hit infrequently.

One was a big box and they had a Kimber at MSRP. I got a chance to try it out and like has been stated the trigger pull is very decent. Real easy to stage, the cylinder locks up quick and then you get a very nice let off, sort of like doing single action shooting.

Went into another LGS and they had one in stock. They were asking $775 and would not haggle farther. I also got a chance to fondle that one and the trigger pull was the same as described above. If that holds true with other guns they will have a winner here albeit a bit pricey winner.

I suppose as more of these guns get available prices will be better, time will tell.

With the new Colt "Cobra" coming out also, things are getting more interesting for oddballs that like the old fashioned circle gun.

I took the K6s to the range this morning and instead of the usual smorgasbord of various guns... today I focused solely on shooting the Kimber. I fired 50 rds of American Eagle .38 spcl copper-plated round nose, and 50 rds of Fiochi copper-plated conical flat nose .357 mag. 1/3 were fired from 20 yards, resting on a sandbag. The other 2/3 were fired standing at about 5 yds. This little gun continues to amaze me with its accuracy and pleasantness to shoot... especially with .38 spcl. One of the groups from 20 yds was a 4-shot group and three of the holes are touching, with the 4th being a flyer. I am a good pistol shooter, but am always amazed at bench rest accuracy in pistols by the magazine writers, because I generally go for pie plate groups at close self-defense ranges. I can shoot pie plate groups at 20-25 yds in my various other pistols (both SA and DA). But I don't think I've ever had three holes touching. Especially not in a DAO snubbie!

I've been carrying my K6s concealed every day because I'm in the honeymoon stage (if I'm being honest). But frankly, this little gem is doing a helluva job at earning continued duty as my primary CCW.

I've seen two used ones show up in the past few weeks at a local gun shop around here. They were priced at $749.99 and I took it as an opportunity to handle one. Very smooth trigger. Feels a lot like a J frame in size but cylinder release reminds me of a Ruger but even deeper in the frame. It's a nice revolver but for the price I can pick up even nicer revolvers.

My LGS got one in. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow.

I love my revolvers, but I'm retiring my S&W 640. The better sights and the higher capacity won me over.

I bet a lot folks are thinking like Grover99. I wish I could guarantee it, but I am sure the prices will drop as the guns start really hitting the market. And now Kimber is introducing a 3" model with longer grips. The more models the better (assuming they add production lines); that drives down the costs per unit and allows Kimber to make as big a profit at lower prices. Life is good.

I'm hoping one of the other benefits will be to convince S&W and Ruger to offer six rounds in a package the size of a 640 or SP101. If Kimber (and Colt) can do it, why can't they?
