When I bought a (Lipsey's model) Ruger .45 Blackhawk a few years ago, I did not know that it had a "safety lock" inside the grip frame, under the grips, which required a key.

Does anyone know how to remove the lock? I don't want it or need it.

I would just take the grips off, make sure it is unlocked and put some JB Weld in it.

I agree with the previous post, either JB Weld or red Loctite it in the open position if it bothers you. I have a Lipsey's .44 Flattop with the lock and I just ignore it. There are no reports of these locks accidentally engaging.

Getting rid of it isn't particularly easy, as the frame, hammer strut and mainspring are different on the models with the lock. There is a company which caters to Cowboy action shooters making a part which allows removal of he lock, but you will then need other parts too. The other option is to find a used XR-3 RED frame and fit it to the revolver, then get the new hammer etc.
Too much trouble-just ignore the darn thing and shoot.

If you want to get rid of it see if you can find a mainspring seat for a Ruger Bearcat and replace the lock with the hammer strut/mainspring and Bearcat seat as a unit.

What Milton said, but I think it has to be a Super Bearcat seat. About $5.00 from Ruger

I would ask Ruger but I think the spring seats for both the Old Model and the New Model are the same,that includes the Super Bearcat.

You've had it several years without knowing it was there. My advice -- continue ignoring it, and be happy.
