Default Falling prices

Jiminy Christmas polymer gun prices are dropping like a rock. I recently have hit the breaks on buying new automatics to focus on revolver prices, but the auto prices are so low it's hard not to jump on the bandwagon. I'll just have to accept that three automatics fill my need. For now

I know. Wish I hadn't spent all my gun money during the last 3 years.

Glad I held off a bit before getting back into the game. When the prices started soaring, I bought only one gun new...my Citadel 1911. I've been very happy with that purchase and that pistol, since the prices on them are still over $100 more than I paid for mine in 2014, and it's a great shooter. Prices could drop on them by $150, and I'd still be up.

I traded off my last poly off at the gun show earlier this month. Traded it & some cash for a 686 Pro-Series, close to new. I still have my steel bottom feeders. Bob

Some prices are definitely dropping quickly. .40 calibers, particularly. I just acquired a used Sig P229 Scorpion, mint condition, for $783.00. That's with shipping and FFL transfer fee. While the brand new model still retails for $1179.00, I don't expect that to last. An FNS40 will go for about 25% less than a year and a half ago.

For me I have never bought a firearm as an investment. Its looks to be a buyers market for some. But all the ones my collection wont be sold. They will all be passed on. Things change in a blink some times. I can rember the craze of the of the .380 back in 08 \09 a year wait list in some places.

While used gun prices here went up some in the last few years new have always been good and used weren't bad either. I was buying used guns in the last few years for pretty good prices and not just good prices for the time.

Tell me about it! ... ... I've been trying to sell a Kahr .380. I think I'm going to have to take half what I paid for it. (I know, I know, SWF members should know better than to buy a Kahr. But, it was 100% reliable for me, just too small to hold on to)...

Firearms are indeed a good investment. No matter the price I won't buy a plastic coated striker fired pistol. If it were a metal pistol, with external hammer, DA/SA with decocker that would be another matter. I would buy a nice stainless revolver, as well.

I've been trying to sell a Ruger P90 which meets the above description, with no takers.

Sounds like S&W Third Generations prices may boost up from these comments. Gonna hold onto that CS-9

I honestly don't think people know enough about Kahr's. They are great guns, just not mainstream or overly advertised (unlike another maker that starts with K)

The market is awash with good quality polymer semi-automatics, both new and used. Many of the new guns are so reasonably priced that they are depressing the prices of used ones like early Glocks, Ruger P95s and first series Steyr M9s. We live in the golden age of affordable handguns, even if you don't like the style.

I personally like the P90. The 1 I had functioned quite well. Was a pain to sell though. Bob

I think what's starting to happen is the promise of the polymer frame pistol is beginning to come around, helped by a flooded market. Cheaper, faster production leads to cheaper list price. The new CZ P 10C has a list price of $516. When supply catches up with demand (knowing CZ that may never happen!) street price will likely be just over $400. Glock and others, I would think, would have a hard time justifying some of their prices.
Speaking of Kahr, their CM line of polymer pistols has dropped. I've seen CM9's for $299 and this mourning I got a Email from grabagun (I think it was them) with a S&W shield for $240!
I'm not in the market for a polymer pistol (STILL impatiently waiting on the 2 3/4" 69!) but now is a great time to buy one.

Yup, they are, and as the "specials" prices are going lower it is an indication that all prices are likely going lower.

$516 for the CZ is MSRP. Yes, the others are specials, and some damn low price specials.

One town over from me is a large firearm manufacturer, before the election UPS was picking up product by the trailer load, they were producing and selling at an unbelievable pace. Everyone wanted to get their hi-cap pistols and AR-15s before the November elections and the impending doom of the anti-2A sentiment that was going to sweep the country. Panic buying was the norm. I know guys who bought 3 and 4 AR-15s, two and three Hi cap polymer pistols just in case. The manufacturers were all ramping up production to beat the maybe newly proposed deadline. It never happened, gun prices are dropping the simple law of supply and demand are coming into play. UPS traffic into the factory has decreased, and it looks like that will be the norm for a while.

My local Sportsman's Warehouse had probably 50 or more ARs in stock - and no one even looking at them.

Hmm, but at what price? There are plenty of ~$500 ARs out there right now.

Talking

The price on the S&W Sport 2 has stabilized at around $550 in the past weeks and they were $499.00 on Gun Broker for the past month. So I'm not seeing a lot of panic selling and prices dropping.

The falling market does affect the collectable market, too, although not that much. I am eyeing a shield at $250 delivered with rebate, a CZ SP-01 for $525 delivered, another m13-1 for $375 delivered. I want them all, but cannot reasonably justify any of them. I swore off new polymers a few weeks ago so I could take my money and buy revolvers, but $250 for a S&W single stack 9mm is awesome . . . and then there is the CZ (used but with tritium night sights) to go along with my P01 . . . and then there is another m13-2, they don't make them like that anymore. Too many choices, too little money.

Bingo!!! Looking at the collection spreadsheet this morning, I have lost value on every single disposable plastic gun I have bought since 2013. Sometimes I lost just a small percentage (like on my Massachusetts Glocks and SW99's) and sometimes I lost hugely (like on most of my other Smith & Wessons and many of my Ruger pistols).

On the other hand, I have held steady or gained in value on every all-metal handgun I've bought... some of them significantly. Funny how that works.

Methinks that's a good lesson on where I should go from here.

There is nothing quite like that smell of vintage plastic one experiences when attending a Glock Collectors Association event.

Back when they were all the rage I bought a 45ACP XD, Never like it much. I traded it even up a few months later for a mint 4" Mint 19-2. Best thing I ever did.
