Marlin 39's starting to add up
Well I pulled my Marlin 39's out for a family photo today. First up is a 39 first edition that was rebarreled prior to 1954. Next up is my new favorite that my wife got me for my birthday. A '54 Ballard rifling Mountie, she's in the process of getting cleaned up. And the last is a '72 Golden 39m that came from a member of this site. And a special thanks to Captain TMD for the Marlin logo sling on the little 39m. Both of my daughters will one day inherit a marlin Mountie to shoot and hopefully teach their kids to shoot on.

Wonderful rifles, at least the JM-marked ones.

I got one for my thirteenth birthday (1964) and have been in love with them ever since. Very accurate and fun to shoot. The Golden model is wearing a vintage Weaver K-4 scope I found last year. Can't decide which one I like to shoot the best.
The older ones are getting both expensive, and harder to find.
Also own this Mountie, made in 1965.

They are great rifles. I carried my fathers 39a all over the western part of Virginia with my squirrel dog when I was a teenager. I don't know how many squirrels "Nick" and I killed back then. I have had other 22 rifles but nothing has compared to a 39a.

My 1st gun was a 1897 Marlin, forerunner of 39. Got for my 5th
birthday back in 55. Have had several 39s over the years, still
have one that I bought for my kids to shoot, because I didn't
want my 97 put at risk. Had a boy that could break a bowling
ball with a rubber hammer.

I bought each of my kids, 3 in all, a Marlin Mountie on the day they were born. The morning the last kid was born there was no Mountie to be found. A lot of calling around I found one 2 hours away in a hardware store in Leadville Colo. Once all had calmed down in the hospital, a 4 hour round trip drive was on my agenda.
