Now that I got a used Uberti 1890 police...
The good, and the bad? I saw a new one for sale in Milpitas, CA, but the dealer seemed to know next to nothing about the line. Read very little on the web regarding their quality, etc. Anyone have one of the Uberti Remington clones? Thanks in advance.

Uberti in general has a good rep, especially in recent years. I think Gun Test Magazine did a write-up on them in the last couple of months. As I recall it was positive.

Thanks for the good vibes. I wasn't looking for a "cowboy" gun when I first saw it, was thinking of finding an early Model 10 S&W four inch, but it was so purty and ignored at the gun show (no one even offered on it, I was told...hmm, honesty by a seller, what is this world coming to) that I had to take it home. New one at the gun shop was $519 plus 8.5% tax and DROS...save enough to buy a Heritage .22 (just kidding, I already have a single six Ruger for plinking).

I recently bought a model 1875. I don't think there was much difference mechanically between the two pistols except for th eloss of the . . rib(?) connecting the barrel and frame. I bought one and don't have a pair of grips for it--the plastic did not fit and slipped all the time. They both take the same grip, so if you hear of a replacement, let me know.

Will keep looking for ya. Are the original grips wood with the revolver, or faux wood? I won't get mine until 4/5 (10 day waiting period).

Originals are wood (walnut I think) with a high shine poly coating. They are nice, but the poly coat damages very easily (true for all Uberti models I've had or seen). If you've go the time, you can stip the poly and do a tung oil finish. Watch out for the slot of wood the fits into the frame--it can break off easily. The used one I bought had a nasty chip broken off it. I am trying to repair it, but I'm not that good at repairs, so . . . .
