Haven't seen one in person yet. Didn't realize they had a gold bead front sight...very nice touch. Just wish they had went with a traditional cylinder to bring weight down a little instead of unfluted.

And I was just thinking how much I liked the clean looks of that unfluted cylinder.

Hope it shoots well for you, bought one in Feb. Have run 500 rds through mine with various cast bullets. This was the first new Ruger I have purchased in years, it had an issue with the front sight, Ruger made it right. Big fan of the 44 spl., and the Ruger fit right in with my model 24's and C A bulldog. Enjoy your's.

Presumably Ruger will be coming out with a 4" one of these days. If so I will have to take a long hard look at it.

So, did they fix that ill fitted front sight that was taller than the dovetail cut in the barrel? It looked terrible when a forum member shared photos a while ago.

Yes, they replaced the barrel. I posted photo's of the before and after front sight on Carnivore's thread. I sent them the gun, they solved the issue and I had the revolver back in two weeks.

It is relatively easy to lighten that trigger pull with a spring change. Also some polishing of the sear will help (I would have a gunsmith do that). I have a GP100 in .327 and it is a great gun. Might have to change to that front sight.

Congratulations on the .44! I have been itching to pick up a 44. (don't own any) It looks interesting. Too many things look interesting to me unfortunately! Bob

.44 special
Those are really nice, and typical Ruger tough. I can no longer shoot big-bore due to my old arthritic wrists, but would like one if I could. My only gripe is the "instruction manual" reference on the side of the barrel. Why not hide it on the bottom of the barrel like the newer SP101 ?

Here's my new GP100 .44 Special with 3" barrel. The front sight is a green fiber optic. I'm thinking about changing that to a gold bead, which is available from Novak (some special editions have the gold bead instead of the fiber optic.)

I got them from, believe it or not, a little old lady who makes them! She's quite an interesting character...I'll have to find her info, and I'll send it to you (I put her brochure away for safe keeping...evidently it's safe even from me!)

Ruger's catalog currently shows a 5" bbl .44 Spl GP100, for those who are interested.

Thankfully they put the warning on the bottom of the dust cover on the SR1911s. I think Ruger is the only handgun maker who persists in putting this warning on their handguns...others, like S&W, do include a warning about the gun firing with the magazine removed (if there is no mag disconnect.)
I once inquired about having an Ed Brown 1911 made with nothing whatsoever on it except the serial number, which I could select a custom number. I was told that by law the maker had to be identified on the gun. I can understand requiring a serial number, but why the maker's info? The serial number should give that if needed.

It may not be physically possible, but I wish they would do one in 45 colt.

Doesn't the Governor accept .45 LC, as well as .45 ACP and .410? Or were you wishing for a GP100 chambered in .45 LC?

That 44 will be a handful but I well imagine that GP100 can handle it easily. Nice pick up.

That is correct. If you make a SBR (Short Barreled Rifle) from an existing AR, you must have the additional maker's name and location (city and state) on the receiver as well. A serial number alone will not give the information as many manufacturer's serial numbers may over lap.

The lady who makes them doesn't have a website that I know of...I was given her contact info by another member of the Ruger forum. When I received my grips, she included a pamphlet showing her products, but it doesn't have a web address. Her contact info is:
Nelllie's Custom Carved Gun Grips and Stocks
[email protected]
Home: 336-998-3721
Cell: 336-909-2626
She lives in North Carolina, and is very responsive. I asked her if I could share her contact info, and she said I could. She makes some beautiful grips for handguns of various makes, including 1911s, and even rifle stocks.
